Chapter Two Hundred And Twelve: Why Are You Here?

Cassienne was making breakfast by herself in the kitchen. Dreston sat on a stool at the island and watched her. His grey eyes were intense. He followed every small movement she made as if he wanted to memorize her completely. Just as he kept looking at her, they heard the sound of car tires crunching on the gravel outside.
“It seems like we have visitors,” Cassienne said.
Dreston got up from the stool where he sat and waited. Who could be coming without informing him? He at least remembered that he disliked the habit of receiving visitors without knowing. But he kept quiet.
The front door opened, and Mrs. Rawlings walked inside. Her facial expression was not good, and Cassienne saw it right away.
Dreston spoke immediately. His voice was deep and not friendly. “Who is there?”
Mrs. Rawlings opened her mouth to speak. But before she could say anything, a very soft voice filled the room, and Cassienne froze.
“Dre honey, it’s me.”
Tina walked right inside the house without permission. Dreston froze. He felt confused. He did not remember ever bringing Tina to this mansion. Even though he did not love his wife at the time, he had still kept their home sacred.
So why was Tina here?
Cassienne frowned, but she kept her cool and focused on her work. Before she continued, she saw that Dreston was thinking deeply, and she didn’t like the fact that Mrs. Rawlings was still there. So she spoke.
“Thank you, Mrs. Rawlings. You can leave now.”
“Very well, ma’am. I should leave you to it.” The older woman bowed her head a little before leaving the sitting room, but not without shooting Tina a tight look.
Tina was coming closer now. That was when Dreston realized that he had been quiet. He left the kitchen immediately before Tina could get there.
Dreston looked confused, but he definitely remembered that he had never brought Tina here before.
“Why are you here?” he asked.
Tina paused for a second. She did not understand anything. Had he remembered everything? Her thoughts were scattered, and for a moment she felt scared.
Cassienne did not even bother to look at her. She focused on her cooking instead.
“Dreston, I thought I should check on you. How have you been?”
Dreston closed his eyes for a moment, then opened them again. “I know I liked you and all that, but Tina,

I do not remember ever inviting you to my home.”
The words stung and Tina froze. That was true. But the situation is different now. Why was he being so cold toward her all of a sudden? Her eyes went toward Cassienne briefly, but Cassienne did not look her
way.
“What is she doing here?” Tina asked, ignoring Dreston’s words.
“She is here because this is her home.”
“What? Dreston. Why are you sounding –”
“Don’t twist the matter. I remember that I already broke up with you. So tell me, you knew that I already broke up with you and I am now with Cassienne. And you knew that she was pregnant with my child, yet you twisted the matter, trying to manipulate the truth by using my situation to your favor.”
Tina’s face filled with horror. She should not have come here. Dreston was getting his memories back. It would not take long before he remembered the rest, and that part would be disastrous. She exhaled and spoke.
“Dreston, we did break up briefly. You were suddenly in a relationship with your ex, but we found each other again. We are good now.” She tried to sound convincing.
At that time, Cassienne was already setting the table.
“Really?” Dreston asked.
Tina smiled and nodded, but said nothing.
Dreston stepped forward and moved closer to her. Even Cassienne looked at him now, and for a second
her confidence shattered.
Dreston wrapped his arms around Tina’s waist and pulled her closer to him. He leaned in and sniffed her neck. He was searching for something, as if he had hidden it there.
Tina smiled. She was so ignorant. Her hands flew to his shoulders, trying to hold him tight.
Cassienne had left what she was doing and was watching. She still did not understand what Dreston
was up to.
“Holding you like this should feel good, Tina,” he said. “Now I understand why we broke up. The connection was no longer there.”
He pulled away instantly and stepped back. “I am sorry, Tina, but this time too, I think we should break up. This thing between us cannot continue.”
He stepped forward toward Cassienne. Now his eyes softened, and Cassienne felt her heart beating faster. His hands took hers and brought them to his chest.
“Can you feel it?” he asked Cassienne. “Can you feel my heart beating? For you?”

Cassienne blinked the tears in her eyes away. She nodded. She could not hold back the feeling anymore. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him.
His hands moved naturally around her body, holding her firmly as he kissed her back.
Tina could not hold back her tears. She sobbed quietly. She turned and began to walk out. She had dressed in a way she knew he liked. She had worn the perfume he liked on her. Even after that, he still remembered Cassienne and not her.
