Finally, everyone had left except Steve and the bodyguards who were positioned outside. The room was quiet in a way that made every sound feel louder than it should.

The steady beeping of the machines filled the air, each sound reminding Cassienne that Dreston was still there, still breathing, still fighting in his own way. She stood by the glass partition for a while before she finally stepped inside.

The VVIP suite had been carefully arranged. The inner room held Dreston and all the medical equipment monitoring his condition, while the outer space had been turned into a private living area. There was a sitting room, a small dining space, and a work desk that had clearly been prepared for her.

Cassienne did not ask for any of it. But she accepted it. And that was because she had already made her decision. She was not leaving.

She walked slowly toward the bed and stopped beside him. Dreston lay still, his face calm in a way that felt unfamiliar. The pain that had twisted his expression earlier was gone, replaced by an artificial stillness that the machines now controlled.

Cassienne sat down beside him. For a moment, she said nothing, she only looked at him. Her fingers moved gently to his hand, holding it as if it was the only thing grounding her. You always find a way to scare me,she said softly.

Her voice trembled slightly, but she held herself together. I told you to stop. I told you not to push yourself like that.

She lowered her gaze to their hands. But you never listen.A faint smile appeared on her lips, even though her eyes remained heavy with emotion. You are stubborneven now.

She took a slow breath and leaned back slightly in the chair. You should rest, she whispered. I will handle everything else.

When she stepped out into the sitting area, her expression had changed. The softness was still there, but it was no longer the only thing people would see. There was control in her posture now, and a quiet authority in the way she carried herself.

Steve stood nearby, waiting. Ma’am,he said respectfully.

Cassienne looked at him. No one comes into this suite without my permission,” she said calmly. Not staff, not visitors, not anyone from the company. Everyone goes through you first.

Steve nodded immediately. Yes, ma’am.

Cassienne held his gaze for a moment. I mean it,she added. There will be no exceptions.

There will be none,he assured her.

She gave a small nod and turned away. At least, that was enough. For now.

Cassienne moved to the desk that had been set up for her and opened her laptop. Files were arranged neatly, her phone placed beside her, and her attention shifted to work.

The company could not stop because of this.

She began reviewing reports, replying to urgent messages, and postponing anything that could wait.

One message held her attention longer than the others.

Jeff Sandler’s proposal.

She read through it carefully again. It was a strong deal, the kind that would benefit Auralink

significantly. Under normal circumstances, she would have moved forward with it immediately. But this was not a normal time.

She picked up her phone and sent a simple reply.

We will revisit this next month.

There was no explanation. No negotiation. She made her decision and moved on. She rescheduled meetings, redirected responsibilities, and ensured that everything continued to run smoothly.

But even as she worked, part of her mind remained in the room behind her. With Dreston.

Later, she returned to his side.

The machines continued their steady rhythm.

Cassienne sat down beside him again, this time closer than before. She took his hand and held it gently. You know, she said softly, “the company is still standing.”

Her thumb brushed against his hand. They tried something. Some of them think you are not fit to lead right now.

She paused briefly, then continued. But you handled it before this happened. You removed them.

A small smile touched her lips. “I am proud of you.” She leaned a little closer. And I will make sure no one touches what you built. Her voice softened. I promise you.

For a moment, everything remained the same. Then she noticed something. The monitor shifted slightly.

Cassienne’s eyes moved immediately to the screen. The change was small, but it was there, causing her heart to skip.

She looked back at him. Dreston?

There was no response. So she leaned closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. I am here. I am not going anywhere.

The monitor returned to its steady rhythm. Cassienne let out a slow breath, but something inside her had changed. Hope had found its way back.

A soft knock came from the outer door. Cassienne stood up and stepped out immediately.

Steve was already there. There was a request,he said quietly. Someone tried to gain access.

Cassienne’s expression remained calm. Who?

They did not give a name,Steve replied. But it came from someone connected to the company.
