Joseph and Abigail sat in silence at the VIP waiting lounge, both facing the wide glass panels that overlooked the arrival terminal. The atmosphere around them was calm, filled with quiet movements and distant announcements, but the tension between them was unmistakable.

Joseph appeared composed, his posture relaxed, his expression steady. However, Abigail was far from calm. Her fingers were clasped tightly together on her lap, and her gaze drifted repeatedly, as though her thoughts refused to settle in one place.

Her mind kept returning to Cassienne. To everything the young woman had endured. And to everything she was still enduring. Abigail shook her head slightly and let out a slow breath, as if she could ease the weight pressing on her chest.

Joseph noticed her worries. He turned his head and looked at her carefully before reaching for her hand. His fingers closed gently around hers, giving a reassuring squeeze. Relax,he said quietly. Everything will be fine.

Abigail nodded, but she did not respond. She couldn’t. On one hand, her son had been lying unconscious in a hospital bed. On the other, his wife was carrying a child while bearing a burden that seemed too heavy for one person.

How could this be happening to them? How could Cassienne be expected to endure so much at once?

The announcement of the flight’s arrival echoed through the speakers, pulling her out of her thoughts.

She is here,Joseph said, his voice calm but firm.

Abigail turned to him. Let me do the talking, she said. We need to be careful with her.

Joseph nodded in agreement.

They both stood and made their way out of the lounge toward the arrival area. People moved around them, reuniting with loved ones, laughter and voices filling the space.

They stood side by side, watching as passengers began to emerge. One after another. Families embraced. Children ran into waiting arms. But Emily was nowhere to be seen.

For a brief moment, Abigail wondered if perhaps she had missed the flight. But Joseph remembered clearly that Emily had called before takeoff. So they waited.

Then, not long after, she appeared. Emily walked toward them, pulling a small suitcase behind her and carrying another in her hand. She looked elegant as always, but there was something different about her. Her face was pale. Her expression was tired. And there was no smile on her face. Very unusual of her. Abigail stepped forward immediately, forcing warmth into her voice. Why are you looking so sad?she said, opening her arms. You should always smile, my friend. She pulled Emily into a gentle embrace. It is good to see you, Emy.

Emily did not return the warmth. As soon as Abigail released her, she spoke. Why did you not tell me that Dreston had an accident?

Abigail’s smile faded slightly, but she remained composed. Welcome, Emily, she said. Perhaps we should talk about this when we get home.

Emily’s expression hardened. Home?she repeated sharply. Why home? We should go to the hospital

Her voice rose, drawing attention from nearby travelers.

But Abigail maintained her calm. Dreston is fine, she said gently. You are overreacting. Let us go home

first.

Emily stared at her, searching her face. She saw no panic or any distress. Only calmness. And it unsettled her. If you say so,Emily replied after a moment. But I want to see him first. Then we can go home.

Abigail nodded. Fine. We will do as you wish.

When they arrived at the hospital, they found Steve standing just outside the main entrance.

Joseph noticed the change in him immediately. Steve lookedrelieved. Even more than that. He looked happy. It was an expression Joseph had not seen on him in days.

As soon as Steve saw them, he straightened and walked forward. Mr. Tremont. Mrs. Tremont. Mrs. Rhodes,he greeted respectfully.

Thank you, Steve,Emily said quickly. Take me to Dreston at once.

Steve smiled slightly. Of course. This way, please.

He turned and led them inside. Joseph frowned faintly as he followed. Something felt different. But he

chose to remain silent. This was not the time to question anything.

When they stepped out of the elevator, they were met with a corridor that immediately raised suspicion. Bodyguards stood stationed along the hallway.

At least six of them. Abigail’s brows drew together slightly. What was happening here?

Steve stopped and turned to them. Please wait here,” he said. I need to inform Mrs. Tremont of your arrival.

Joseph gave a small nod, still saying nothing. But Abigail and Emily exchanged a look. The same thought crossed their minds at once.

Why did he need to inform Cassienne first? Emily’s expression tightened, but she remained quiet.

The door opened shortly after. Steve stepped aside. You may come in now.

Aurora and Daisy were seated in the living area, laughing over something as they spoke. The moment they saw the elders, they stood up immediately. Mr. and Mrs. Tremont. Emily, they greeted respectfully. Abigail nodded with a faint smile. But Emily acknowledged them briefly.
