Morning settled gently over the hospital. The chaos from the previous night had faded, leaving behind strange calm that did not quite feel like peace. The corridors were quieter now, the urgency replaced by routine, but inside the private suite, emotions still lingered–unspoken, and unresolved.
Corren lay propped up against the hospital bed. The color had returned slightly to his face, though the bandage across his side reminded everyone how close things had come. A tray of food rested on the table beside him, untouched until a moment ago.
Aurora Stephens sat beside him. She held a spoon carefully, blowing lightly on it before bringing it toward him. “Careful,” she said. “It’s still hot.”
Corren watched her for a second before opening his mouth. He took the spoon quietly. “Since when did you become this gentle?” he asked, his voice still a little weak but steady enough.
Aurora rolled her eyes slightly. “Don’t flatter yourself,” she replied. “I was asked to take care of you, so I’m doing it.”
But her tone did not match her words. There was something softer beneath it. Even Corren noticed it. He leaned back slightly as she prepared another spoonful.
“You don’t look like someone who’s doing something she was forced to do,” he said.
Aurora paused for a brief second. Then continued. “I wasn’t forced,” she corrected. “Cassienne asked
me.”
Corren’s gaze softened. “That makes sense,” he said quietly.
Aurora brought the spoon to him again. But this time, she did not look away. “I wanted to,” she added,
and that was honest.
Corren took the food slowly, and for a moment, neither of them spoke. There was something quiet in the air. Not uncomfortable or awkward. Just…Present.
Corren exhaled slowly. “You’re good at this,” he said.
Aurora smirked slightly. “Don’t get used to it,” she replied. “I don’t do this for just anyone.”
He chuckled faintly. But the sound faded quickly because his thoughts drifted back to last night. To Cassienne. And to the way she had looked at him–Terrified.
To the way she had said: “He saved my life.”
His chest tightened slightly. Aurora noticed. “You’re thinking too much,” she said.
Corren shook his head..“I’m thinking the right amount.”
She raised a brow. And he looked at her. “That man…” he began, his tone shifting. “Dreston.”
Aurora stilled slightly.

“I knew he would hurt her again,” Corren continued, his voice tightening. “I just didn’t think it would be this way.
Aurora sighed. “We don’t know the full story,” she said carefully.
Corren scoffed lightly. “I don’t need the full story to know what I saw.” His jaw clenched. “He stood there,” Corren went on. “In front of the world. And announced another woman without thinking twice.”
Silence fell. Aurora lowered the spoon.
Corren’s eyes darkened. “I don’t care what excuse he has,” he said. “I don’t care about business. I don’t care about pressure.” He leaned forward slightly despite the pain. “You don’t do that to someone you love.”
Aurora watched him carefully. “And what would you do?” she asked quietly.
Corren didn’t hesitate. “I would take her back.”
The words were firm and unshaken.
Aurora’s breath caught slightly. “Even now?” she asked.
Corren held her gaze. “Even now,” he said. “I don’t care if she’s carrying his child.”
The room went still.
“I don’t care what the public says,” he added. “I don’t care what anyone thinks.” His voice dropped. “If she chooses me… I’ll take her. No hesitation.”
Aurora looked at him, and for a moment, she saw something she hadn’t expected. Conviction. A man who was not hiding or pretending. Just standing by what he felt.
Aurora leaned back slowly. “Wow,” she muttered under her breath.
Corren frowned slightly. “What?”
She shook her head. “Nothing,” she said. But inside, her thoughts moved.
So this is what a real man looks like.
Not quiet love. Not hidden intentions. But something loud, open and certain. Just for a brief second there, she quickly compared him with someone and stopped herself. Because this was not her story.
She couldn’t deny it. Cassienne had someone willing to stand for her without fear. And that mattered.
Across the room, Merrick Ashbourne cleared his throat lightly. He had been seated quietly, reviewing documents on his tablet. “I believe we are drifting away from the main issue,” he said calmly.
