Outside Doctor Zach’s office, Elena Brook and Ivy Hart stood by the door. Two security men–hired by Ray -remained close, their eyes scanning the surroundings with sharp, practiced focus. Every one of them was on alert, ensuring that no threat came anywhere near Cassienne.
The entire floor was eerily quiet. Even the nurses moving about barely made a sound, their footsteps soft against the polished tiles. No one needed to be told that the person inside Doctor Zach’s office was a VIP.
Movement along the corridor was tightly restricted. But inside Doctor Zach’s office, it was an entirely different atmosphere. The soft hum of the ultrasound filled the room, blending with the doctor’s calm voice as he spoke between each pass of the scan.
Cassienne lay on the examination bed, her gaze fixed on the ceiling. The doctor moved the probe gently across her abdomen, his eyes focused on the screen. “There we go,” he said calmly. “Good position.”
Cassienne turned her head slightly, her eyes shifting to the monitor. A faint image flickered into clarity. It was small, fragile and alive. Her breath slowed.
The doctor adjusted the angle slightly. “At fourteen weeks,” he continued, his tone professional but reassuring, “everything is progressing well.”
Cassienne listened. But more than that, she watched the movement and the shape. Her growing child.
“The heartbeat is strong,” he added. “Growth is consistent with where we expect it to be.”
Cassienne swallowed quietly. And for a brief moment, everything else disappeared. The headlines, the chaos and the tension. None mattered here.
“However,” the doctor continued, his tone shifting slightly, “you still need to be careful.”
Cassienne blinked. Her focus returned.
“This stage is delicate,” he said. “You’ve already experienced stress recently. That is something we must avoid moving forward.”
She nodded faintly.
“No unnecessary strain. No emotional stress if possible. Rest is important.”
Cassienne let out a small breath. “I understand,” she said softly.
The doctor wiped away the gel and stepped back.
“I’ll schedule your next appointment,” he added. “But for now, everything looks stable. Just follow instructions.”
Cassienne sat up slowly. “Thank you.”

Outside the office. Everything remained the same. Cassiene’s heels clicked on the floor, steady this time. Her assistants moved close to her, quiet, efficient, but Cassienne barely registered them because across from her, Dreston was standing a few steps away, waiting.
Her steps slowed for a moment, neither of them moved. Then her assistants glanced between them, understanding instantly. “We’ll be outside,” Ivy said softly.
They stepped away without another word. The two security men followed them, understanding the situation. They knew that she was safe with Dreston.
Dreston’s eyes stayed on her. “Why did you cancel our meeting, Cass?” he asked. His voice carried concern. Real concern.
Cassienne didn’t answer. Her gaze drifted briefly, to the side.
To the side. Nurses passed by, and staff moved around. She could see that people were watching. “Can we not create a scene here?” she said quietly.
Dreston followed her gaze. He understood. So he nodded. “There’s a lounge,” he said, gesturing toward the corner.
Cassienne didn’t argue with him. She just followed him as he led the way.
The door closed behind them, leaving the lounge quiet and private. The moment the door closed. Dreston moved fast, he pulled her into him without hesitation. His lips found hers. It was an urgent kiss.
Cassienne gasped softly, caught off guard. For a second, her body reacted because she had missed him more than she admitted. But her mind held back. She didn’t respond, not the way he wanted.
Dreston felt her hesitation immediately. She was giving her distance. And slowly, he pulled away. His hands came up to frame her face in a gentle and careful manner. “I missed you,” he said softly. And then, he kissed her again.
This time, it was less urgent. He was waiting for her response which didn’t come. At least, not the way he wanted it. So he stopped, his forehead rested lightly against hers. “I can see that you’re angry with
me,” he said quietly.
His voice softened. “Tell me,” he added. “What did I do wrong?”
Cassienne looked at him. For a brief moment, she almost forgot everything. The way he looked at her, the way his hands held her, and the way his voice softened only for her. It almost pulled her in. 1
But then, the words came back. The headlines, the announcement and the whispers. She stepped back slightly. Just enough to create space. “You didn’t do anything wrong,” she said calmly.
Dreston frowned. “That doesn’t sound like the truth.”
Cassienne’s gaze lowered briefly. Then returned to him. “You made a decision,” she said. “And you made it publicly. I thought that we still had time, but you didn’t care to let me know that the plan has changed. Well, I am just…. adjusting to it.”

She raised her hand gently. “Not here,” she said softly. The words weren’t harsh. Dreston stopped. For a moment, he said nothing. Then his hand moved. Then his hands moved slightly, resting lightly against her abdomen.
A silent question crossed his mind. Cassienne didn’t pull away. “He’s fine,” she said quietly. “The baby is fine.”
