Chapter Three Hundred And Five: Scared Of Losing You

For a long moment after Dreston Tremont whispered those words against her stomach, neither of them moved. The rain continued falling softly outside the mansion, a gentle rhythm against the windows that somehow made the silence inside feel even more intimate.

The lights in the living room remained dim and warm, casting a golden glow across the space. And in that quiet, suspended moment, Cassienne Rhodes finally understood something that unsettled her deeply.

Dreston was exhausted. Not the kind of exhaustion that sleep could fix. Not ordinary work exhaustion. Not even the usual stress of running a global empire. This was the exhaustion of a man who had spent an entire day terrified bonedeep, soulweary terror that had left him hollowed out and raw.

Slowly, Cassienne slid her fingers deeper into his hair, her touch gentle and patient, massaging his scalp with tender care. Dreston closed his eyes immediately. That alone told her how badly he needed this how desperately he’d been holding everything together without allowing himself a single moment of weakness.

Cassienne lowered herself carefully in front of him until they were finally at eye level. Her fingers lightly brushed against his cheek, tracing the sharp line of his jaw. You need to rest, she whispered.

Dreston looked at her quietly. For once, there was no resistance in him. No stubborn control. No argument. Just exhaustionpure, unguarded, and heavy exhaustion.

Cassienne stood slowly afterward and held out her hand toward him. Come with me.

Dreston stared at her hand for a brief moment before taking it silently. And somehow, that simple act felt more intimate than words ever could. Because Dreston Tremont was not a man who let people lead him. Yet tonight, he followed her without hesitation, allowing her to guide him through the quiet halls of their home.

The mansion remained silent as Cassienne guided him upstairs toward their bedroom suite. Neither of them spoke much. The heaviness of the day still lingered too strongly between them, too fresh and overwhelming for casual conversation.

Once they entered the bedroom, Cassienne turned on the soft bathroom lights before walking toward the large freestanding bathtub. Warm light immediately spread across the marble surfaces and glass walls, softening the entire atmosphere and chasing away some of the hospital’s lingering coldness.

Dreston stood quietly near the doorway watching her, still and silent. Cassienne began filling the bathtub with warm water, adjusting the temperature carefully before turning toward him again. It was then she looked at him properly. And her chest tightened instantly at what she saw.

He looked worn down. His shirt was wrinkled from hours of tension. His hair was slightly messy from repeatedly running his fingers through it all day. Dark shadows rested beneath his eyes, and the usual commanding presence seemed dimmed by fatigue.

And suddenly, Cassienne could not stop imagining him alone in that cold hospital hallway, carrying the weight of everything by himself the fear, the decisions, the blood on the pavement, the uncertainty.

Without saying anything, she walked toward him slowly. Then she reached for his tie.

Dreston’s eyes lowered immediately to her hands.

Cassienne loosened the tie carefully before pulling it away from his neck completely. Her movements

remained slow, gentle, and natural. Then she moved to the buttons of his shirt, undoing them one after another with patient fingers.

Dreston continued watching her quietly the entire time. And there was something almost vulnerable in his gaze now. Like he still was not fully used to being cared for this way- not as the powerful CEO, not as the protector, but simply as her husband.

Cassienne pushed the shirt softly off his shoulders once she was done. Then her fingers brushed lightly across his chest. She could feel the warmth of his skin, and the tense of his muscles. A heartbeat that still had not properly calmed down.

You’re tense,she whispered softly.

Dreston let out a tired breath. I know.

Cassienne looked up at him. You scared me too yesterday.

That made something shift inside his expression immediately.

Because hearing it aloud made the reality settle even deeper. The day had already changed. Yet the fear still

remained.

Dreston reached for her waist gently, pulling her slightly closer. His forehead lowered briefly against hers. I was more scared of losing you yesterday than anything else.

Cassienne’s eyes softened instantly.

And for the first time since the accident, Dreston finally sounded honest about how terrified he truly had

been.

Cassienne brushed her thumb softly against his jaw. You didn’t lose me.

But I almost did before all this,he admitted quietly.

That made her chest tighten. Because she knew exactly what he meant. The distance. The fake engagement. The emotional separation.

For weeks, they had both been hurting while pretending everything was under control. And now everything around them was falling apart so quickly that none of it seemed important anymore.

Cassienne gently cupped his face. I’m here now.

Dreston closed his eyes briefly at her words. Like he needed them more than he wanted to admit.

The bathtub had finished filling by then. Warm steam slowly spread through the room, carrying the faint scent of lavender.
