The answer came immediately Honsby
Dreston finally turned his head slightly toward her. “I know how to fight enemies I can see.”
Cassienne’s fingers moved through his wet hair again slowly. “But not invisible ones.”
Dreston let out a humorless breath “Exactly.”
Silence settled between them afterward. But it no longer felt heavy. Not like before.
Cassienne eventually rinsed the shampoo from his hair carefully before speaking again. “You don’t have to Carry every disaster alone. ”
Dreston’s eyes lowered slightly. “I’m supposed to protect everyone.”
“And who protects you?”
That question lingered quietly in the warm air between them.
Dreston did not answer immediately. Because honestly, he did not know.
For most of his life, he had simply learned to endure pressure silently. To carry responsibility without complaint. To fiz problems before they reach anyone else.
But somewhere along the way, he forgot he was human too.
Cassienne gently kissed the side of his temple. “You’re allowed to be tired, DT.”
Something inside Dreston softened painfully at those words.
He turned slightly afterward and pulled her closer inside the warm water until she rested properly against his chest. Then he buried his face briefly against her neck.
And for several quiet minutes, they simply stayed like that. No talking. No pretending. Just holding each other while the world outside continued becoming more dangerous.
Eventually, Cassienne helped him out of the bathtub. She dried herself, wrapped a soft bathrobe around herself, then she dried his hair carefully afterward while he sat quietly at the edge of the bed wearing dark lounge pants and a loose black shirt she had picked for him. The sight unexpectedly softened her heart again.
Because without the expensive suits and cold CEO image, Dreston simply looked like a tired man trying to
survive too much at once.
Cassienne brushed her fingers through his damp hair lightly. “Have you eaten anything?”
Dreston looked up at her. Then sighed quietly. “No.”
Cassienne immediately frowned. “DT.”
“I forgot.”
That answer only made her more emotional. Because of course he forgot. He had spent the entire day protecting everyone except himself.
Without another word, Cassienne held out her hand again. “Come.”
Dreston looked mildly confused. “At this hour?”
“Yes. At this hour.”
And somehow, that tiny firmness in her voice almost made him smile faintly.

The mansion remained completely quiet as they walked downstairs together sometime past one in the morning. Soft rain still tapped lightly outside while warm under–cabinet lighting illuminated the massive
kitchen.
Cassienne moved around naturally inside the space while warming something simple for him – soup, toast, and tea. Nothing extravagant. Just comfort.
Dreston sat quietly on one of the barstools at the dark marble kitchen island watching her. And honestly, he could not remember the last time someone had taken care of him this way. Not because they had to. But because they wanted to.
Eventually, Cassienne placed the warm bowl in front of him before taking the seat beside him. “Eat.”
Dreston obeyed quietly. Too tired to argue.
For a while, only silence filled the kitchen again. Comfortable silence.
Cassienne sat close beside him while her fingers moved absentmindedly through his still–damp hair. The gentle touch relaxed him more than he realized.
“You know,” she murmured softly, “our baby is going to inherit your stubbornness.”
That finally earned the faintest smile from him. “A terrible fate for the child.”
Cassienne almost laughed quietly. Almost.
Dreston continued eating slowly before eventually speaking again. “When all this is over… I’m taking you away from everyone.”
Cassienne tilted her head slightly. “Oh really?”
“Yes.”
His tone sounded serious enough to make her smile softly. “You won’t survive one week without work.” “I’ll survive if it means having peace.”
Cassienne watched him quietly after that. And suddenly, she realized how deeply all of this had already affected him. Not the business scandals. Not the fake engagement. Not public pressure. But fear.
The fear of losing her.
Dreston finally finished eating sometime later before pulling Cassienne gently between his legs while remaining seated on the stool. He wrapped both arms around her waist and rested his face against her stomach again. Holding her quietly.
