Chapter Three Hundred And Seven: I’ll Corne Back To You Soon

Morning arrived quietly over the Tremont mansion. Soft sunlight filtered through the tall kitchen windows while the faint, comforting scent of fresh coffee and toasted bread lingered gently in the air.
For the first time in days, the atmosphere inside the house felt calm. Not entirely peaceful, but calmer. It was a fragile pocket of stillness amid the gathering storm.
Cassienne stood near the kitchen island, pouring steaming tea into a cup with careful movements, while Dreston sat beside her in a perfect grey tailored suit. The exhaustion from the previous day still remained visible on him – the sleepless night, the emotional pressure, the unrelenting tension. None of it had disappeared overnight.
But somehow, he looked more active this morning. And Cassienne knew exactly why. Because last night, for once, he allowed himself to stop carrying everything alone. He let her see him–truly see him in his most vulnerable, tired, and human way.
Dreston lowered his eyes briefly toward the documents resting on the kitchen counter beside him. Transfer authorization forms. Security clearance files. Medical transportation approvals. Everything had already been prepared with meticulous orderliness.
His phone vibrated again with another update from Steve.
Cassienne noticed it immediately. “You’re leaving already?”
Dreston looked toward her quietly before nodding once. “They’re preparing the transfer now.”
Cassienne slowly placed the tea cup in front of him, her fingers brushing lightly against his. “Did you sleep at all?”
“A little.”
That answer earned him a long, knowing look. Because they both knew he was lying.
Still, Cassienne did not push further. Instead, she stepped closer and gently adjusted the collar of his shirt. A small action, but it felt intimate. A natural gesture full of quiet lave.
Dreston’s eyes softened immediately at the touch.

For several seconds, neither of them spoke. And somehow, those quiet moments between them had become more meaningful lately than any dramatic declarations ever could.
Then suddenly, footsteps approached from the hallway.
Steve entered the kitchen shortly afterward, dressed in a dark tailored suit with his tablet in hand as always, looking professional, sharp and prepared.
“The medical transport team is ready, sir,” he informed calmly. “Airport clearance has already been secured.”
Immediately, the atmosphere shifted back to serious.
Dreston nodded once before standing slowly from the stool. The movement alone made Cassienne’s chest tighten slightly. Because every time he walked away now, fear followed him like a shadow.

Dreston turned toward her fully afterward. Then, without hesitation, he stepped closer and kissed her forehead gently. It was soft and slightly longer than usual.
Then he kissed her lips. At first, not deeply. Not passionately. Just enough to make her feel the promise inside it. But then, he held her face and deepened the kiss. He didn’t want to let go. But Cassienne pulled away eventually.
“I’ll come back to you soon,” he murmured quietly against her lips.
Cassienne rested her hand lightly against his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart. “Be careful.”
Dreston’s hand moved instinctively toward her stomach afterward. His touch remained there briefly. Protective. Unconscious. Almost reverent.
“Don’t leave the house today.”
Cassienne sighed softly. “DT-”
“I mean it.”
His voice remained calm. But firm enough for her to understand he was not negotiating on this.
Cassienne eventually nodded. “Fine.”
And that was when he looked toward Jessica Tremont, who had just entered the kitchen half–awake with messy hair and a mug of coffee in her hand.
