Chapter Three Hundred And Sixteen: Just You And Me

Cassienne kissed him. Nothke the feared CEO that he truly is. But like her husband. The man who rules her world. The father of her unborn child. And immediately, the restraint inside him cracked.

Dreston’s hands tightened around her waist as he deepened the kiss instantly, pulling her closer until she almost lost balance against him. The kiss carried days of exhaustion fear, longing, and reisef all at once.

Cassienne’s fingers curled lightly against his shoulders as she kissed him back with equal need.

God, she had missed him too.

Dreston stood suddenly, lifting her effortlessly into his arms without breaking the kiss, Cassienne let out a soft surprised sound against his lips that only seemed to encourage him further.

He carried her and laid her down carefully beneath him. For a moment, he simply looked at her, like he needed the reminder that she was safe, alive and his.

Cassienne reached upward and touched his jaw gently. Why are you looking at me like that?

Because I never want to lose you, Cass.

The honesty in his voice made her chest ache again.

Dreston lowered himself slowly until his forehead rested against hers. Do you know what the worst part is?

Cassienne shook her head slightly.

I don’t think I can ever live my life without you in it.

The confession hit deeply.

Cassienne wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him down into another kiss immediately, slower this time, and more

emotional.

And Dreston responded like a man starving for peace.

The intimacy between them unfolded naturally after that. It wasn’t rushed. And not careless. But every touch of his carried a meaning. Relief, assurance and something more he can’t explain.

Cassienne held him close like she was trying to ease every burden sitting on his shoulders while Dreston touched hes ake she was the only thing grounding him to sanity lately.

And somehow, just this moment. He finally stopped thinking about enemies. About investigations, tear and death.

Because right there in her arms, none of it could reach him.

Much later, the room had fallen completely quiet except for the soft hun of the air conditionu g

Cassienne rested against Dreston’s chest beneath the blankets while his fingers moved lazily through het hart

Neither of them had spoken in several minutes Comfortable silence settled naturally between them

assienne lifted her head slightly afterward and studied him carefully. The exhaustion was still there, but he looks better now.

You look better,she whispered

That’s because my wife fixed me

Cassienne rolled her eyes softly. You’re dramatic

I’m serious.

His hand moved slowly against her stomach again beneath the blankets. The gesture had become instinctive lately.

Somehow protective. And full of quiet love.

Dreston lowered his eyes briefly before speaking again. I want to disappear with you.He said,

Cassienne smiled softly. Where?

I don’t know.He replied honestly. But I just felt that way. To take us away from this stress, this chaos, and everything. Just you and me.

Okay. Let’s find out who is after us and Tina’s life. Then we can do that.

And just like that. Dreston relaxed more with her. He talked briefly about Simpson Medical Center and how Ray had practically turned Tina’s entire floor into a military zone, while Cassienne told him about Jeff Sandler’s excitement over the project breakthrough earlier that day.

At some point during the conversation, Dreston stopped listening completely. And instead of talking more. He found something more interesting to do.

He kissed her slowly like he had all the time in the world while Cassienne melted beneath him with equal warmth, her hands moving through his hair as his lips traveled across her skin with growing hunger.

The teasing between them never fully disappeared at all. Not even when the kisses became deeper.

Not even when the tension between them finally broke completely. Because beneath the passion, they were still best friends too.

And honestly?

That was what made moments like this feel real and not interesting.
