The black convoy rolled smoothly into the compound one after another before coming to a controlled stop beneath the soft golden lights outside the main entrance.
Inside the first vehicle, Dreston remained seated her a few extra seconds after the engine died.
The exhaustion on his face was impossible to hide now. He had barely slept properly in days.
Between Tina’s condition, the investigation, the growing suspicion surrounding the old lab, and the constant fear hanging over Cassienne Rhodes, his body was finally beginning to feel the pressure of it all.
Steve stepped out first and opened the rear door for him.
“Sir.”
Dreston gave a small nod and stepped out of the vehicle slowly. The cold night air hit his face immediately, but it did little to clear the heaviness sitting inside his chest
He was tired. Not just physically, but both mentally and emotionally. And honestly, the only thing he wanted right now was his wife
As he entered the mansion, the house itself was quiet. Most of the lights had already been dimmed for the night, leaving only the warm glow from the hallway sconces stretching across the marble floors.
One of the staff members approached him quietly. “Good evening, Mr. Tremont.”
Dreston loosened the tie around his neck slightly. “Where’s my wife?”
“She’s upstairs, sir.”
Something inside him eased immediately. And without another word, he headed toward the staircase.
By the time he reached the master bedroom, the tension in tris shoulders had already softened slightly. He pushed the door open quietly and stepped inside.
Dressed in one of his oversized dark shirts that fell loosely over her body. Cassienne sat just by the floor to ceiling window, ber long hair spilling over one shoulder while a book rested forgotten in her lap.
Immediately Dreston’s eyes met hers, all the remaining tension in his shoulders totally disappeared as if her presence itself was a remedy.
Same goes with Cassienne. Immediately she saw him standing there. Her expression changed properly. She has really missed him.
She welcomed him with a soft, concerned and warm smile. “DT.”
Even the way she said his name felt like relief.
Dreston closed the door behind him slowly before finally walking toward her. Cassienne stood immediately and met him halfway across the room.
Neither of them spoke at first.
He simply pulled her into his arms, tightly. Like he needed to feel her there physically to breathe again
Cassienne wrapped her arms around him instantly and held him just as firmly. Her cheek rested against his chest while one of her hands moved slowly through the back of his hair
“You’re exhausted,” she murmured softly.

“You have no ses”
Cassienne pulled back slightly aherward just enough to look at him properly. The exhaustion in his face immediately made her
chest ache
“You didn’t sleep again.”
“I tried.”
“That means no ”
A faint tired smile touched his lips for the first time that day “You’re becoming bossy.”
“And you’re becoming impossible
He let out a quiet breath and rested his forehead briefly against hers. “I missed you.”
The honesty in his voice hit her harder than she expected
Cassienne gently touched his face “I missed you too”
For a moment, they simply stayed there holding each other in the quietness of the room.
Finally, after what felt like forever, Cassienne took his hand and led him toward the bed slowly. “Sit down.”
Dreston obeyed without argument, which already told her how mentally drained he truly was.
She stood between his legs afterward and slowly removed his already loosed tie before tossing it aside. Her fingers moved to the buttons of his shirt next, undoing them one after another carefully while he watched her silently.
There was something deeply intimate about moments like this. Preston thought. But he didn’t say it out loud.
Cassienne pushed his shirt from his shoulders gently before her hands moved across his chest slowly. “You really need to slow down, DT.”
Dreston leaned back slightly and looked up at her. “The happenings these days scare me more than I want to admit.”
