Chapter Three Hundred And Forty–Four: Taking Cassienne Away
“What I’m about to tell you…jessica swallowed hard, her voice trembling as the words caught in her throat. “…you need to
believe me.”
The atmosphere around the group changed immediately. The laughter from a few moments ago disappeared completely, replaced by a heavy, charged silence that wrapped around them like a vice.
Dreston studied her carefully. Jessica was frightened, not nervous, not emotional, but genuinely frightened, and that alone was enough to put him on full alert. He took a step closer and lowered his voice, his tone softening with controlled urgency. “Jessica. Take a deep breath.”
Jessica tried, but failed, then tried again. This time it worked, though barely. Dreston waited patientry Unlike most people, he understood that panicked people often needed a moment to gather themselves before speaking. “Look at ire” Jessica did.” You’re safe.” The words came calmly, steadily. “Just tell me what happened.”
Jessica nodded slowly. Then her eyes drifted away from him instinctively, searching, looking. Immediately she found Cassienne across the ballroom, still standing with the investors, still smiling, still talking, completely unaware.
Dreston followed her gaze, then Corren, then Merrick, then Jeff. The moment all four men looked toward Cassienne, something connected inside Dreston. His expression changed instantly. The calm vanished. His eyes sharpered with lethal focus. “Is this about Cassienne?”
Jessica looked at him, then nodded. That was all Dreston needed.
He moved immediately, no hesitation, no questions, nothing. One second he was standing beside them, the next fre was already walking fast and purposefully straight through the crowd.
Behind him, Corren frowned. The seriousness in Dreston’s reaction immediately caught his attention. “What about Cassienne?”
Jessica looked at the remaining three men, then finally spoke, her voice still shaky but determined. “I overheard two people talking. They were inside the ladies‘ room.”
Jeff frowned. Merrick’s expression darkened. Jessica continued. “They didn’t know I was there.” She swallowed, then forced herself to continue. “They were talking about taking Cassienne away.”
The words hit like a bomb. Nobody spoke. Jessica continued anyway. “They also mentioned Tina.” Now every face around her changed. “They said they were responsible for what happened to her.” Jessica looked around the ballroom. Suddenly every guest seemed suspicious. Every stranger felt dangerous. “They thought Tina was already dead.”
Corren’s jaw tightened. Jeff’s expression hardened. Merrick slowly scanned the crowd. Nobody asked another question because suddenly there were too many questions and no answers.

Meanwhile, Cassienne was enjoying herself. For the first time in months, she felt normal. No accusations. No rumors. No whispers. Just work, technology, and ideas- the things she loved. One of the investors was discussing a potential international expansion project. Another was asking questions about future applications for her technology. Cassienne was genuinely interested. Then suddenly, she spotted someone approaching.
“Dreston?” She called.
The group turned. Dreston had appeared beside them. The smile on his face was polite, professional, controlled. Only Cassienne noticed the tension hiding underneath it. “I’m sorry,” he said, his tone remaining calm. “But I need to speak with my wife.”
The businessmen exchanged surprised looks. Cassienne frowned. “What?”
Dreston gently took her hand. “We need to go.”
The investors immediately stepped aside. Nobody was going to argue with Dreston Tremont, especially not when he looked like

that
Cassienne allowed herself to be fed away, at firs: Then she started talking. “Dreston.” No answer. “Dreston.” Still nothing. Now she was irritated. “We were discussing something important.” Agair., he said nothing.
Cassienne stared at him. How could he just walk over and drag her away from a conversation like that?! was rude. Very rude. And unlike him. “Dreston, are you even listening to me?”
He still said nothing. At least not verbally. His eyes never stopped moving, scanning, watching, searching. Then he spotted the bodyguards. Immediately. The men noticed him too. No words were exchanged. None were necessary. Just one look. The bodyguards instantly repositioned themselves.
One moved closer. Another shifted toward a different angle. The third subtly adjusted his location, creating a stronger security circle around Cassienne.
Now Cassienne was officially confused, very confused. “What is happening?”
Still no answer. Dreston continued walking until they reached the others. The moment they arrived, Cassienne stopped.
Jessica was standing there, looking pale, terrified. And before Cassienne could say anything, Jessica rushed forward, then wrapped her arms around her tightly. “Thank God.” Jessica’s voice broke. A sob escaped before she could stop it. “Thank God you’re safe.”
Cassienne froze completely. For several seconds she didn’t know what to do. Then her arms slowly wrapped around Jessica.” Jessica?”
She didn’t respond. Only trembling. Cassienne looked up immediately toward Dreston, toward Corren, toward Merrick, and
toward Jeff. Something was wrong. She could feel it now.
Before anyone could explain, more people began approaching. Aurora arrived first, followed by Daisy, Ray Simpson wasn’t far behind. All three immediately sensed the tension. Aurora’s smile disappeared. Daisy frowned. Ray’s medical instincts immediately activated. “What happened?”
