When Love Finds Its Way Back (Cassienne and Dreston) novel Chapter 388

For one second, no one moved.

Cassienne stared at her. “What did you say?”

The nurse replied immediately. “He opened his eyes a few minutes ago. The doctors are with him now.”

Abigail covered her mouth, she was filled with joy. And Mrs. Rawlings, she was also shouting excitedly.

Jessica jumped to her feet. Daisy grabbed Aurora’s hand.

Cassienne rose too quickly. “Take me to him. I want to see him myself.”

Ray moved toward her. “Cassienne, slowly.”

She took one step forward and she stopped. A sharp pain tightened across her lower stomach, her hand flew to her belly.

“Cassienne?” Abigail asked.

Cassienne closed her eyes. The pain grew stronger before slowly passing.

Everyone watched her. Ray’s expression changed immediately.

“What did you feel?”

“Nothing.” Her response was too fast. “That was not nothing.” She finally opened her eyes. “It was just a pain.”

“What kind of pain?”

“I don’t know. I stood too quickly.”

Ray moved closer to her, his expression softened. “Sit down.”

“No. Dreston is awake.”

“Cassienne—”

“I’m going to see my husband.”

Cassienne was becoming too stubborn and as she tried to take another step. A second pain followed. And this time, it was stronger.

Cassienne gasped and grabbed Abigail’s arm.

“Cassienne!”

Ray reached her quickly.

“Breathe.”

She bent slightly, holding her stomach, still acting stubborn. “I’m fine.”

“We need to examine you.”

“After I see Dreston.

“And your body may have just started labour.”

Cassienne opened her mouth to argue. Then she suddenly froze.

Warm liquid ran down her legs. The entire room went silent. Cassienne slowly looked down.

Daisy followed her gaze.

“Oh my God.”

Jessica covered her mouth. Mrs. Rawlings gasped loudly. Abigail held Cassienne tighter.

Cassienne looked at Ray with disbelief. “My water did not just break.”

“It did.”

She stared at him.

“And it appears your baby has decided that this is the perfect time to arrive.”

When another contraction began. Cassienne grabbed his arm. “Do something.”

“I am doing something.”

“But you are just standing there.”

“We need to move you to the delivery room.”

“No.”

“Cassienne.”

Another pain tightened around her stomach. Cassienne gripped the arm of the wheelchair and closed her eyes.

Ray checked his watch. “Breathe slowly.”

“I am breathing.”

“You are holding your breath.”

“I am trying not to scream.”

“You can scream, Cass, just let it out.” He advised.

Daisy hurried beside them, carrying Cassienne’s hospital bag even though Jessica had been the one who found it.

Jessica followed with another smaller bag in her hand.

Mrs. Rawlings moved behind them, praying under her breath while Abigail stayed close enough to touch Cassienne whenever she needed support.

Aurora and Corren followed at a slower pace.

The nurse pushing the wheelchair turned toward Ray and spoke. “The delivery room is ready.”

Cassienne immediately shook her head. “My husband just woke up from a coma. At least, let me see him.”

Ray looked at her. “But your baby has also decided to wake up, and that situation is complicated.”

Cassienne stared at him. “That is not the same thing.”

“No, it is not. One of them is already under the care of several doctors. The other is trying to come out of your body.”

Abigail placed one hand on Cassienne’s shoulder. “Breathe, sweetheart.”

Cassienne leaned back and tried to follow Ray’s instructions. The contraction lasted longer than the others.

When it finally passed, she looked exhausted. “I need Dreston.”

Abigail’s face softened. “You will see him.”

“When?” Cassienne asked.

But there was no response from anyone.
