When Love Finds Its Way Back (Cassienne and Dreston) novel Chapter 393

Cassienne fell back against the pillow.

Dreston stared toward the doctor.

The cry came again, and it was very strong this time. It was clear.

Cassienne opened her eyes. “Is the baby alright?”

The doctor smiled. “Perfect.”

A nurse moved quickly to clean and wrap the baby.

Dreston’s eyes filled with tears as he looked at Cassienne.

She was already crying. “What is it?” she asked.

The doctor looked at both of them. “Congratulations.” She lifted the baby slightly. “You have a beautiful baby girl.”

Cassienne covered her mouth. “A girl?”

Dreston stared. “A daughter?”

The nurse brought the baby closer. She was tiny, wrapped warmly, her face red from crying.

The moment Cassienne saw her, another sob left her. “My baby.”

The nurse placed the baby carefully against her chest.

Cassienne looked down at her daughter like the rest of the world had disappeared.

Dreston could not speak. He had never seen anything so small, so perfect, and so completely theirs.

Cassienne looked at him. “Dreston.”

His eyes lifted to hers.

“She’s here.”

He nodded, but no words came. The nurse moved his bed a little closer. Dreston slowly reached out, his fingers touched the baby’s tiny hand.

Her fingers curled around one of his. That small movement broke him. Tears rolled down his face.

Cassienne stared at him, she had seen Dreston angry. But she had never seen him cry like that.

“She’s holding me,” he whispered.

Cassienne laughed through her own tears. “She has no idea who you are.”

“She knows.”

“She was born two minutes ago.”

“She knows her father.”

Cassienne smiled.

The baby’s cries softened against her chest.

Dreston looked at her closely. “She looks like you.”

Cassienne looked down. “She is red and wrinkled.”

“She is beautiful.”

“She is.”

Dreston looked at his daughter again. “She definitely looks like you.”

Cassienne raised her eyebrows. “You haven’t even looked properly.”

Ray stood quietly at the side of the room, smiling. The monitor beside Dreston remained steady.

For once, nobody needed to warn him to calm down. His blood pressure had begun to settle.

The doctor noticed and smiled. “Perhaps seeing his family really was the best medicine.”

Dreston looked at Ray. “You heard her.”

Ray shook his head. “Do not turn this into proof that you were right.”

“I was right.”

Cassienne looked at him. “I heard you threatened to buy the hospital.”

Dreston paused. “Who told you?”

Ray pointed toward the nurses. “Everyone knows.”

Joseph lowered his head, his shoulders began to shake.

Abigail turned toward him. “Joseph.”

He covered his face with one hand. For days, he had feared losing his only child.

He just returned from closing the darkest chapter of their family’s past and arrived just in time to hear that his son was awake.

Now he had a granddaughter.

Abigail wrapped her arms around him. Joseph held her tightly. “Our son is alive,” she whispered.

He nodded. “And we have a granddaughter.”

Joseph laughed through his tears. For the first time in many years, the tears did not come from regret.

Inside the delivery room, Dreston continued staring at his daughter.

Cassienne watched him. “You should rest.”

“I’m not tired.”

“You can barely speak.”

“I’m fine.”

She smiled. “Now I know how everyone felt when I kept saying that.”

Dreston looked at their daughter, he reached for her tiny hand again. What he didn't know was that the investigation was over.

No more danger and their marriage finally survived all the trials.

And after every painful moment they endured, they were finally together.

Dreston looked at Cassienne.

Cassienne looked at their daughter.

At that quiet moment where they were surrounded by machines, tired doctors, and the people waiting outside to celebrate with them, they understood that this was the beginning of a good time in their lives.

This was their victory.
