Chapter Fifty–Nine: Let Go Before It’s Too Late.
The first time Tina saw Dreston, she was still a little girl.
Even at that young age, something about him caught her attention. He was handsome, confident, and different from the other boys. Tina liked him instantly.
He was the type of boy she wanted to play with. Even as a child, she knew she loved him.
But that first moment also came with something else.
Dreston was not alone. He was playing with another little girl. And that little girl was Cassienne.
Tina didn’t like it. Not one bit.
She didn’t understand why the boy she liked was laughing, smiling, and sharing his time with another girl. Jealousy grew in her heart that very day. It was childish, but it was real. 1
From that moment on, Tina decided something in her mind. Dreston was hers.
Years passed.
Fate brought Tina and Cassienne together again in high school. Tina saw it as destiny. This time, instead of rivals, they became best friends.
Cassienne trusted Tina completely. As a matter of fact, Cassienne loved her deeply. There was nothing Cassienne would not do for her. Tina knew this, and she used it without guilt.
When Tina saw Dreston again as a teenager, the old feelings returned immediately. Her heart raced every time she
saw him.
But once again, Cassienne was with him again.
Why?
Why was Cassienne always standing beside the boy she wanted? The boy she had claimed in her heart long ago?
Then luck finally smiled on Tina.
Cassienne, innocent and unaware, introduced Tina to Dreston and his friends. From that moment, everything changed.
Dreston noticed Tina. And he liked her. But for a reason.
He saw something in her–something new, something exciting. Slowly, his attention shifted. Without hesitation, he left Cassienne behind and began dating Tina instead.
Just like that.
From then on, Tina believed she had finally won.
She captured Dreston’s heart and held onto it for years. If not for Dreston’s parents opposing the marriage, Cassienne would never have become Mrs. Tremont in the first place.
Cassienne was only a replacement. At least, that was what Tina believed.
But now, after everything–after the marriage, after the divorce–Dreston still kept finding his way back to Cassienne.

That was the one thing Tina could not understand.
Why?
Why was Dreston suddenly so drawn to Cassienne again?
She had announced their marriage to force things forward because Dreston was no longer making any move. Instead of being happy, he scolded her.
And what hurt even more? He left the office to go and see Cassienne.
Why her?
Why always her?
“Honey, you will hurt yourself that way.‘
Siara Ackley’s voice pulled Tina slightly back to reality.
Siara was Tina’s foster mother. Tina was their only child, and they loved her deeply. But Tina had always been difficult. Always stubborn. Always restless.
Tina never listened to them. She always did as she pleased. She left their company to work for Dreston all because she wanted to be so close to him.
Siara was a woman with deep blue eyes and short black curly hair. She was a little plump and carried herself with quiet strength. She was also into tech, just like Tina.
With everything she just said to her daughter.Tina didn’t hear her. Her thoughts were far away.
Gerald, Tina’s foster father, only glanced at her briefly before returning to his food. He said nothing. He had learned over the years that arguing with Tina was useless.
The forty–nine year old man with hazel eyes didn’t bother to get involved because he knew that it was pointless talking to their daughter. She was so stubborn.
But Siara did not give up.
“If I may speak on this matter,” she said carefully, “I think you should leave Dreston alone.”
Tina snapped her head up and glared at her.
Siara met her gaze calmly. “Now that I have your attention-”
“Mom, stop,” Tina cut in sharply. “I love Dreston, and he loves me. The only problem is his parents. I don’t understand why they hate me this much.”
Siara exchanged a long look with Gerald.
Tina noticed it–and she didn’t like it.
She had seen that look many times before. It always meant they were hiding something from her.
Whenever Tina asked about Dreston’s parents, her foster parents became careful, quiet, and distant. Tina knew they knew more than they were saying.
She believed one day they would finally tell her.
But now, it felt like that day might never come.
