Chapter Ninety–Five: Cassienne Would Choose Corren

The big conference room at Coralreach System was full. Executives from every department sat around the long table. The PR team and the development team were there too. Everyone looked serious and focused.

A speaker stood at the front. He talked clearly about the company’s plans. People listened carefully, taking notes. Corren sat at the head of the table like always. He looked calm on the outside, eyes on the speaker. But inside, his mind was far away.

His thoughts kept going back to Cassienne.

Last night still felt like a dream. The way she smiled at him. The soft taste of her lips when he finally kissed her the way he had wanted to for so long. The warmth of her body pressed against his. The little moan she made when his tongue touched hers. He could still feel her arms around his neck, pulling him closer. His heart beat faster just thinking about it.

If things kept going this well, he wanted to make her his forever. Maybe in a few months, he would get down on one knee and ask her to marry him. The thought made a small, secret smile appear on his lips. It was tiny, but real. And someone noticed.

Merrick

Merrick sat across from him. He saw the smile and knew it had nothing to do with work. He watched his friend carefully. Merrick knew Corren too well. When Corren fell in love, he fell hard, and he became reckless. He gave everything. And too many times, he picked the wrong woman. It always ended in pain.

Now it was Cassienne. Merrick wished it wasn’t her, he was sure Corren would end up hurt again. Cassienne still carried feelings for Dreston. Merrick could see it. And lately, Dreston was trying to come back into her life, and he would not stop until Cassienne accepted him back. Merrick feared the worst.

“Finally, our two products will stand out,” the speaker finished.

Everyone clapped. The sound pulled Corren back to the room. He blinked and joined the applause.

Merrick stood up. As CTO, he stepped forward to close the meeting. He shook the speaker’s hand and thanked him. The man smiled, nodded, and left.

Merrick turned to the team now.

“You all heard everything,” he said. “That’s how it will go at the expo. But he forgot one important thing.”

He paused, then continued.

“When we arrive, there will be only two entrances. Once you go in, you stay inside the resort for seven full days. No one comes out until the end.”

He explained more.

“One entrance is only for VIPs. The other is for everyone else. To avoid any mix–up or embarrassment, please check your badges carefully before you get there.”

Merrick held up the sample badges so everyone could see.

“Level one gets a white badge. Level two gets blue. Level three gets red. All three levels use the regular entrance.”

He pointed to the others.

“Level four and level five are VIP. Only gold and black badges go through the VIP entrance. That’s very important.

“We leave tomorrow morning, so everyone should be at the airport on time.”

More applause filled the room. The meeting ended. People stood up, talked in small groups, and slowly walked out.

Soon, only Corren and Merrick were left.

Corren looked up at his friend. But Merrick was already watching him.

“So… tomorrow it is,” Corren said. It wasn’t really a question. Just a quiet confirmation.

“Yes. It’s finally here,” Merrick answered. He walked over, pulled out a chair, and sat close to Corren.

Corren saw the look on Merrick’s face. He knew he had questions. He knew exactly what was coming.

Corren gave a small laugh. “Just say it. Whatever you want to say.

Merrick didn’t smile back. “You were gone during the whole meeting. You were smiling throughout the meeting. And it wasn’t about the expo. So don’t even try to lie.”

Corren laughed again, and it was softer this time. “You know me too well.” He leaned back in his chair. His eyes became warm.

“Cassienne finally said yes. We’re together now. We’re officially dating.”
