Jensen froze, at a loss for words. He couldn’t let Natalie find out that her baby swap from over twenty years ago was tied to Loretta.

Anna seized the moment, her shrill voice breaking through. Mr. Jensen, save me! If you let me go, I’ll do anything you want!

and this little rat know each other? Or was this

Baron’s eyes narrowed dangerously. So you whole kidnapping something you cooked up together?

Don’t talk nonsense!Jensen snapped, furious. I would never do anything to hurt Natalie.

Then what are you doing now?Baron growled. She kidnapped my wife, nearly killed us both, and now she’s begging you for help? You expect anyone to believe you’ve got nothing to do with her?

Jensen clenched his jaw, then glanced at Natalie. His voice dropped. Natalie, believe meI don’t know this woman. But I need to question her. Pleaselet me take her.

No.Natalie’s reply was firm, instant.

She met his gaze steadily. Jensen, I am grateful for what you did today. If Luke Corp doesn’t have a new product design lined up, I’ll create one for you myselfas payment. But this woman? Never. She and I are mortal enemies.

The words cut Jensen deeply.

Natalie, you know I didn’t protect you for any kind of reward,he said hoarsely.

I know. But this is all I can give you. The Natalie Summers who donated her rib to you five years ago is gone. My name is Natalie Stone now. Stop using the past to shackle me. And I’ll say it againthis woman will never be handed over to you.

She gave Baron a look, then turned to leave.

That was when everything went wrong.

Seemingly weak and beaten, Anna slipped a gleaming dagger from her clothes. As Natalie turned her back, the blade flashed toward her.

It was too fast. No one reacted in time.

The sickening sound of metal piercing flesh filled the air.

Wife!Baron’s voice cracked as he lunged forwardonly to realize the blade wasn’t in Natalie.

It was buried in Jensen.

Natalie’s breath caught. She had braced herself for Anna’s strike, but never expected Jensen to throw himself in front of her.

He shoved her aside in that split second, and the knife meant for her sank into his own body.

Jensen, are you insane?Natalie’s eyes burned.

Baron hesitated only a heartbeat before striking, snapping Anna’s arm with brutal precision.

Her scream tore through the warehouse. Baron showed no mercy. This should’ve been done the moment you raised a hand against her.

He tossed her like trash toward Westin. I don’t care howbreak her down. Just keep her alive long enough to talk.

Westin caught her and flung her to his men, his expression cold.

Baron, you’ll pay for this!Anna shrieked, until a hand smothered her mouth and dragged her

away.

Jensen sagged to the ground, blood spilling from the knife still lodged in him.

Natalie dropped beside him, pressing her hands against the wound though she didn’t know what else to do.

Baron barked orderspolice, ambulance, everything at once.

Jensen, hold on! I don’t want to owe you,Natalie whispered, her voice shaking.

It wasn’t lingering lovejust a refusal to carry another debt. She wanted clean breaks, separate paths.

Why had he thrown himself in front of her now? That wasn’t how this was supposed to go.

And yet, her chest tightened. Her eyes stung, her body trembling.

The last time she’d seen him bleed like this was five years ago, after that reckless race for Sharon’s sake. Back then she had wished he would fight for her like that, even oncethat if he did, she could die without regret.

Now that he had, it didn’t feel like vindication. It felt heavy, suffocating.
