“Oh, Finn’s fine now, don’t be so upset,” Aubree said gently. “I know this wasn’t your fault–it was that Anna girl. Don’t worry, Auntie will make sure she’s found.”

Aubree had already told her husband about Susie’s identity.

Rio was startled at first. He hadn’t expected the little girl to be a Stone family child. But when he saw her come in person to apologize, his heart softened.

Susie, however, wasn’t reassured by Aubree’s words. She looked at Finn and asked carefully, word by word, “Do you accept my apology?”

When Finn first woke, he had felt so much pain.

“I accept your apology,” Finn said. “But will you be my friend from now on?”

friend.”

The moment she heard his words, Susie broke into a smile.

“Finn forgave me.”

Her tears spilled down her cheeks in relief, her heart finally at ease.

Aubree hurried to wipe her face. “Oh, don’t cry now. You’re both victims here–don’t carry that weight on your shoulders. If your mom saw you like this, her heart would ache.”

As she dabbed away the tears, Aubree’s tone softened even further. “Susie, right? Can I call you that too? But tell me–did your mom know you came here? Was anyone with you?”

Only now did she realize the children seemed to be alone.

Sean stepped in. “We sneaked out. No one at home knows. My sister couldn’t stop worrying about Finn, so she insisted on coming to see him and apologize. I came with her.”

Aubree glanced at Rio.

As a father himself, he knew how frantic a parent would be if their children went missing.

“You should stay here for now,” Rio said firmly. “I’ll call your parents right away.”

“I’ll call Natalie,” Aubree offered. “We’re friends now, after all.”

She dialed, but no one answered. Her brows furrowed.

“Strange. Why isn’t she picking up?”

Sean immediately spoke up. “Then can you call my dad instead? I’ll give you his number.”

“All right.” Aubree smiled, ready to dial the number he

gave

her.

But just then, Rio’s phone rang.

Aubree blinked.

Rio glanced at the caller ID. “It’s Dad. Must be something urgent.”

At that, Aubree stilled.

Her father–in–law Payne rarely called unless it was about family. His work was confidential; he wouldn’t normally discuss it. Only Grandmother’s illness could have driven him to reach out so suddenly.

Thinking of Payne’s recent efforts, Aubree’s eyes

“Could it be… he found Witch Doctor to treat Grandma?”

“I don’t know. Let me answer.”

Rio quickly picked up.

On the other end, Payne’s voice came through, brimming with excitement.

“I found Witch Doctor. He’ll treat your grandmother. Where are you?”
