“Exactly,” the private nurse chimed in. “Ms. Summers, Madam Loretta asked you to care for Mr. Jensen, but you dump everything on Lucy and me while you idle around. And now you throw tantrums? Isn’t that a bit much?”
Their words nearly drove Sharon mad.
“Shut up! Let me go!” She fought, but their grip held firm.
The doctor, wary of the family’s private feuds, slipped quickly out of the ward. Before leaving, he thoughtfully closed the door.
Lucy wasted no time–she locked it.
A chill spread through Sharon’s chest. Panic clawed at her.
“What are you doing? I’m warning you, this is a lawful country. If you dare lay a hand on me, I’ll never let you off! Jensen! Jensen, help me!”
Instinctively, she turned to him for rescue. For years, no matter what she wanted or what trouble she was in, Jensen had been her last refuge.
She had grown used to taking him for granted.
Jensen looked at her pitiful struggle and almost laughed at himself. A woman who panicked so easily when held by two servants–how could he have ever believed she had the courage to donate a rib for him?
He must have been blind all these years.
The one who had truly saved him–Natalie–he had ignored.
Regret surged like a knife twisting in his gut.
No matter. Once he dealt with Sharon, Natalie would forgive him one day. She had to.
He threw off the covers and got out of bed. His body was weak but steady enough to walk.
Step by step, he approached Sharon.
She seized the chance. “Jensen! These two servants are rebelling. Kill them!”
Her eyes gleamed with malice, naked and sharp.

So this was Sharon’s true face–never hidden, only unseen by his own blinded heart.

Jensen’s lips curved in a mocking smile. “Oh? Kill them? Then tell me, Sharon–how should I do it so no one ever finds out?”
His hand tightened at the hem of his hospital gown, waiting.
Believing he still cared for her, Sharon sneered. “Lucy’s insolent–break both her hands, chop off her legs, seal her in a jar and let her starve. As for the nurse–throw her into the sea. It’s vast; no one cares about a single corpse.”
Lucy and the nurse went white as paper. The nurse trembled, almost ready to let go of Sharon’s arm.
Jensen burst out laughing, but there was no joy in his eyes. For years he had shielded this creature–this monster. Compared to her, Natalie was an angel. And he had cast the angel aside.
Sharon flinched at his laughter, realizing too late what she’d said. She scrambled to cover it. “Jensen, don’t laugh like that, you’re scaring me. I didn’t mean it–I was just angry. Really, you could just fire them.”
But Jensen’s gaze turned cold and sharp as steel. “Sharon, you truly deserve to die.”
The killing intent in his voice nearly made her knees give way.
“Jensen, no! I was only talking. You know me—I just run my mouth, that’s all.”
But he clamped her throat again, fingers like iron. Air vanished from her lungs. Terror drowned her as she sobbed.
“Jensen, don’t–please–I’m scared! I’ll never speak recklessly again!”
He stared into her tear–streaked face. “I’ll give you one chance. Tell me honestly–who donated a rib to save me five years ago?”
Her body stiffened. A flicker of panic flashed in her eyes, gone as quickly as it came.
“Jensen, what are you saying? Of course it was me. Witch Doctor’s medical records don’t lie.”
