Whenever Natalie was with Jensen, she would only answer her phone in his presence but never allowed him to casually scroll through or hold her mobile device. That boundary was clear and unspoken.
Now, the smooth male voice on the line made Hansel’s thoughts drift immediately to Baron.
“Is this Mr. Gunn?” the voice asked.
Baron’s smile was lazy, almost effortless, as his slender fingers tapped rhythmically on the desk—one tap after another. Strangely, that simple gesture sent a wave of pressure through Hansel, a sensation he hadn’t even felt around Jensen.
Could a man with such an imposing presence really be just the Stone family’s son-in-law?
Hansel’s confusion deepened, but he kept his composure, returning a polite smile over the phone. “Is Miss Natalie available? There’s something important I need to discuss with her.”
“If this is about Jensen, forget it. My wife is exhausted and needs to rest,” Baron said, his tone flat as he moved to end the call.
But Hansel quickly interrupted, “I understand, but this is serious. Mr. Jensen is in danger—he’s been kidnapped. The kidnapper is Rachel. He asked me to deliver a message to Miss Natalie. I don’t know why Jensen insisted on reaching her specifically, but given their history, I hope you can help. If Miss Natalie is resting, perhaps, as her husband, you could make a decision on her behalf?”
Baron had initially intended to brush off Jensen’s troubles, but the mention of Rachel made him hesitate. Rachel was a pivotal figure within the Stone family. Whether it was the incident from over twenty years ago when Natalie was switched, or the recent upheavals in the family, Rachel’s involvement seemed undeniable.
Baron’s voice grew more measured. “If you put it that way, I’ll listen. What exactly did Jensen want me to tell my wife?”
Hansel wasted no time, fearing Baron might hang up if he delayed. He relayed Jensen’s entire message as clearly as possible.
After hearing everything, Baron’s brow furrowed deeply.
“So, you’re saying your Luke family doesn’t own the LN-380 private jet?”
“That’s correct. I suspect ‘LN’ stands for the initials of Mr. Jensen and Miss Natalie, and ‘380’ corresponds to her birthday. I believe Jensen wanted me to pass this message to her. Our madam and Rachel seem to have some kind of conflict. Jensen might be avoiding using the Luke family’s resources to capture Rachel because of this, so I’m asking for your help. If Jensen is rescued, the Luke family will owe you a favor. In the future, whether it concerns Jensen or the Luke family, we will honor that debt.”
Hansel’s words were carefully chosen, persuasive.
Baron considered the situation for a moment before responding, “Very well. I’ll arrange for people to be at the airport by eight o’clock to set an ambush. If Rachel shows up, we’ll capture her. As for your Mr. Jensen, your Luke family can come pick him up yourselves.”
“Understood. Thank you!” Hansel breathed a sigh of relief, his tense heart finally easing.
For some reason, speaking with Baron left him feeling an intense pressure, unlike anything he had experienced before.
Without wasting any more time, Baron ended the call abruptly.
The Stone family’s need to capture Rachel was undeniable. She was far too important to let go.
