**Chapter 545: Jealousy**
The moment she returned with the teenager from the high, a sense of urgency enveloped the room. Para’s instincts kicked in like a well-tuned engine, and she understood the gravity of the situation instantly. “Fine, my wife is planning to take Holt back with them,” she thought, her mind racing as she considered the implications of their decision. He had to respect her choice, even if it stirred a whirlwind of emotions within him.
As if summoned by fate, Holt’s ears perked up at the mention of being taken away. His gaze darted around, searching for Beth, his anchor in this chaotic sea of uncertainty. Just then, Beth appeared, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “From now on, you’ll be called Hols!” she exclaimed, her voice bubbling with enthusiasm. “Your teacher said it means ‘bright.’ She hopes your future will be as smooth as silk. If you truly love drawing, you must study hard with her. Do you understand?”
Holt’s face lit up with joy as he nodded vigorously, then, in an impulsive burst of affection, he flung himself into Beth’s warm embrace. The comfort of her presence wrapped around him like a soft blanket, and for a fleeting moment, the world outside faded away.
Baron observed the scene, a smile creeping onto his face as he recognized that the matter was settled. “In that case, pack your things and come back with us,” he said, his tone firm yet gentle. “This place is too close to where James is staying. We can’t guarantee he won’t find you. If Holt falls into his hands again, who knows what horrors may await him. Besides, there’s an operation planned for tonight. It’s not safe for you here.”
Beth hesitated, a flicker of resistance in her eyes, but the mention of the operation sent a shiver down her spine. She didn’t want to be a burden. “Okay,” she finally relented, her voice barely above a whisper. “I’ll go pack right now. I just… I feel like I’m troubling you so much.”
Baron brushed off her concerns with a wave of his hand. “It’s fine,” he reassured her, glancing at Holt with a fatherly warmth. Natalie, meanwhile, reached out to stroke Holt’s head, her heart swelling with affection. She couldn’t help but marvel at how Baron always seemed to know what she was thinking, showering her with kindness without hesitation. What had she ever done to deserve such a partner?
Baron caught the tender look in Natalie’s eyes, and an involuntary smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. Just then, his phone erupted with a sharp ring, breaking the moment. “Mr. Baron, we’ve located James,” a voice crackled through the line.
“I’m on my way! But don’t alert him. Tonight, we’re not just capturing Rachel; we’re taking down James as well,” he commanded, his voice steady and resolute. After hanging up, he turned to the group. “Let’s go. I’ll ensure you all get back safely. Tonight, stay at home with Mom and the kids. My brother-in-law and I will handle things outside. Yvonne needs to rest, so I’ll have Shauna send some people over to protect you.”
At this crucial juncture, Baron felt the weight of responsibility pressing down on him. He couldn’t afford to let his guard down, not even for a second.
