**Chapter 571: Your Sister Yulia**
Layne cleared his throat, his voice breaking through the silence, “Your sister.”
Baron’s reaction was immediate and explosive. “Layne, are you trying to provoke me? You dare to utter such a curse?” His tone was sharp, rising like a crescendo in an orchestra, filled with indignation.
Quickly, Layne rushed to clarify, “No, no, I’m not cursing you! I’m serious—it really is your sister. Your half-sister, Yulia.”
A sneer crept across Baron’s face, one that spoke volumes of his disbelief. “My mother had only me. Where would I even get a sister? If I had one, it would surely be Yvonne. But Yulia? I have no interest in some girl I’ve never heard of.”
“Hold on, don’t hang up just yet. You need to hear me out.” Layne’s voice, now tinged with a hint of excitement, cut through Baron’s disbelief.
Baron, while puzzled by Layne’s sudden enthusiasm, noted that Natalie was still asleep and decided to indulge Layne’s ramblings.
With a cough, Layne composed himself and continued, “I’ve got some juicy gossip about the Gunn family that you’ll want to hear.”
Baron raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued despite his indifference toward the Gunn family. “Oh? Go on. I’m all ears at the moment.” He settled into a chair nearby, preparing for what was sure to be an entertaining tale.
In a conspiratorial whisper, Layne said, “You remember that stepmother who was so eager to push your mother and you out of the Gunn family? Well, it turns out she had a son with your dad. But here’s the kicker—he recently fell ill and went to the hospital for a check-up. Guess what they discovered? He’s not actually your dad’s biological child! This revelation has sent shockwaves through the Gunn family. The son they’ve been grooming as the heir for years is not even from their bloodline! Can you believe that?”
Baron felt a momentary jolt of surprise, a flicker of cold amusement crossing his features.
He recalled the painful history—the moment his mother had been forced into a divorce by the head of the Gunn family, all because that woman had been pregnant. She had left with him, Baron, her only child.
At that time, the Gunn family had deemed him unworthy, convinced he would never amount to anything significant. They had turned their backs on him completely.
Understanding dawned on Layne. “Alright, I’ll let her know. But you should be aware that Yulia is quite determined. She’s not the type to back down easily. I fear she might come looking for you herself.”
Baron scoffed at the thought. “Even if Trent isn’t a Gunn family child, he’s still her half-brother through their mother. What could she possibly want from me?”
“No, no, listen.” Layne’s excitement surged again. “Baron, let me clarify—Trent is neither your dad’s biological son nor your stepmother’s. When your stepmother gave birth, the baby was stillborn. Coincidentally, her sister was also in labor at that time. So, she took her sister’s child and raised him as her own. They resemble each other so closely that no one ever suspected a thing! Everyone just assumed Trent took after his mother.”
Baron’s mind raced as he absorbed this new information. He had never heard this part of the story before. “So that means Trent is Yulia’s cousin. They share blood and grew up together. She should be supporting him!”
“Well, you’d think so,” Layne replied, his voice lowering conspiratorially, “but I heard Yulia was in love with a man whom Trent had secretly killed. Since then, the two have been at odds. Now that Yulia knows Trent isn’t her real brother, she’s looking to partner with us at Grant International Holdings to sabotage Trent and kick him out of the Gunn family for good. Your dad… he still seems hesitant to let go of Trent.”
Layne clicked his tongue, a sound of disbelief. “What do you think your dad is thinking? He knows Trent isn’t his child, yet he still holds out hope that after raising him for over twenty years, Trent will somehow repay him. Why hasn’t he ever considered finding you, his real biological son? Because, let’s be honest, you’re a hundred times better than that impostor.”
