When Serena checked the account, she was shocked to find 100,000 dollars sitting in it.
"Money really does make everything easier," she said lazily. "Since you guys have your eye on him, I guess I can reluctantly agree to teach him."
“Eat,” Sebastian said as his hand suddenly reached out, placing a bowl and utensils beside her.
The school nurse’s office wasn’t exactly a top-tier facility—same place they worked, same place they ate.
Wearing an apron, Noah served the food. Sebastian had already shut his work laptop. Serena, who hadn’t even touched her books, stuffed them right back into her bag.
Zayden personally ladled a bowl of soup for Serena and said, “Drink this. I need to draw your blood later.”
Serena gave him a sideways look. “You want my blood for research? Pay up.”
“How much?” Zayden had followed Sebastian for years. He might lack many things, but money wasn’t one of them.
“Ten million dollars,” she replied.
Zayden choked, soup spraying from his mouth. “Mr. Hayes, she’s extorting me!”
Serena calmly countered, “He wants to steal my blood.”
Her serious expression made Sebastian’s steely heart tremble just a little. “Mm. I’ll punish him.”
He turned to Zayden and said, “Dock a month of your pay.”
Zayden was speechless. Mr. Hayes, did you not hear what I said?
Taylor gave the Advanced Research Team a brief introduction to five projects for them to choose from, then ended the first study session.
He had important research to work on tonight, so to avoid a blood sugar crash, he headed to the school nurse’s office to prep some meds.
Just as he reached the door, he received a message from Sean: “Mechanical limbs aren’t my area of expertise, so I found you a specialist.”
Taylor's heart leapt. A specialist in intelligent robotics from the Horizon Research Institute—could it be Dr. G?
Dr. G didn’t care for fame or fortune, but her achievements in intelligent robotics were undeniable. She was best known for developing companion-teaching robots for children with autism.
When she was eight, she went on a spring outing with her mother and got into a car accident. A truck’s steel beams broke loose and pierced through their windshield. Her mother used her own body to shield her from the fatal blow.
She watched her mother die in front of her. The trauma sent her into severe autism.
Taylor’s heart was pounding. Is it Dr. G?
Her?
Taylor was stunned. Dr. G is a woman?
Taylor felt like he’d just been struck by lightning. About his age? That meant Dr. G was a young woman—probably barely in her twenties. His nerves shot through the roof.
Worshipping a male idol was one thing. Worshipping a young woman? That was something else entirely.
When Sean forwarded Dr. G’s WhatsApp contact, Taylor’s face turned red.
He opened the app, sent the request, and when she accepted—it was like a beam of holy light piercing through dark clouds. Even the shadow Serena had cast over his mood was instantly blown away.
“Hello, Dr. G. I hope I’m not bothering you?”
Reverent and cautious, he was a bundle of nerves. And right then, someone came strolling straight at him, eyes glued to their phone.
He stepped to the left. She followed to the left. He stepped right. She did too.
Taylor finally snapped. “Serena, can you watch where you’re going?”
He didn’t want to stoop to arguing with a tactless, shameless country bumpkin—but she always knew just how to get under his skin.
Taylor was starting to think that the biggest mistake of his life might have been letting Serena into Haven High School.
