It was a new week, a new beginning.

Early in the morning. Serena handed Thanos a ticket.

At the end of the month, the Morrow family, who were on the breadline, saw Thanos’s eyes light up with excitement, only to be extinguished the next second by Serena’s words.

“Buy me a bubble tea every day.”

Thanos thought, Okay, mom always says, behind every successful man is a group of women I need to look after.

Nathan didn’t come to take them to school; Olivia ordered a ride–share instead.

Thanos felt he wasn’t that delicate.

“Mom, we can take the bus. Don’t waste money!”

Our family needs to save money for my future wife, my brother’s treatment, and the new baby.

Olivia’s eyes widened, “You want Serena to cram into a bus? Thanos, doesn’t your conscience hurt? What if some hooligan targets Serena?”

Thanos rolled his eyes, as if there were no hooligans at school.

Well, there are, but no one dares mess with Serena!

Thanos glanced at the girl, thinking she’d never get married at this rate, and he’d have to support her forever!

Suddenly, the burden of being the Morrow family’s eldest heir felt overwhelmingly heavy.

At school, the first question his classmates asked was, “Is Mr. Remy still alive?”

“Alive!”

The second question was, “Did Celeste break her leg?”

Just her left hand for now.

Chapter 21 A Fresh Start

The geeky boys at school nearly ran to the school gates with banners to celebrate.

But soon, bad news arrived; Sidney was only making a brief stop to complete some formalities before leaving

I heard her concert tour was a huge success, and she got a scholarship from the Royal Music Academy in the Malvaria. It’s the only spot from our country!”

At noon. Thanos went to his classroom, where everyone was still talking about it.

He placed the milk tea on Serena’s desk, hands in his pockets, trying to look cool.

“Mom says girls should avoid cold drinks. I got you a hot milk tea. It’s not made from powder, but real tea mixed with milk, topped with red beans and crushed peanuts, and no extra sugar added. You can drink it every day without worry.”

The girls in class turned their heads, clearly, none had ever tasted such a fancy milk tea.

“Drink up, while it’s hot.”

Thanos tried to play it cool, but his eyes were full of hope; he was itching for an answer or reward.

Serena popped in a straw and took a sip. The taste is indeed different.

Her eyes brightened, and dimples appeared on her cheeks.

Thanos’s eyes widened; he had never seen such an expression on Serena’s face.

“Are you… smiling?”

The dimples faded, and her face returned to its usual impassiveness.

Her obsidian eyes looked at him, cool and undisturbed.

Thanos shivered involuntarily. Women’s thoughts are hard to guess.

“I’ll buy you another one tomorrow.”

He turned and walked away.

Rowan suddenly came over, linking arms with Serena, “Serena, you look so pretty when you

smile!”

Rowan’s gentleness and warmth all leaned on her, making Serena feel stiff as if the world had

shifted somehow.

Evervale City, the same school, the same people who feared and disliked her, and she didn’t care, but now, it was different.

“Mm.”

Her lips moved slightly, the dimples faintly visible. Rowan liked that.

Just as Thanos left, the student council arrived.

Arts department is recruiting!”

Many special admissions students were in building B, including in class 19.

Hearing about the arts department recruitment, nearly everyone’s eyes sparkled, hoping for good luck to fall on them.

“Class 19’s Serena, please report to the arts department immediately!”

“Serena? Why her?”

Natalie was the first to stand up in protest. As the successor to Kennedy as the arts representative, even if class 19 had a slot, shouldn’t it be mine? If not mine, then one of the many talented students, but surely not Serena! What talent could a country bumpkin bring to the coveted arts department? What was the student council thinking?

She didn’t know why, but she was scornful! She had worked hard for this spot when she joined the student council!

“Serena, did you hear? Such a big opportunity coming out of nowhere, aren’t you going to seize it?”

The student council member looked smug as if bestowing a favor on Serena.
