Both of them entered the venue with high hopes, but the next moment, their smiles vanished.
Who were those people rubbing against each other on stage in filthy water?
“What are they doing?”
Celeste could hardly believe her eyes; about a dozen people were setting up the venue, except for a little girl standing at the edge, everyone else looked as if they had been dipped in a bucket of paint.
Morgan had it the worst; her eyes and nose were indistinguishable. If not for her distinctly plump waist, they wouldn’t have recognized her.
Serena had just come down from a ladder and pulled out a lollipop to calm her nerves.
“They might be practicing swimming.”
Swimming? Does your orphanage practice swimming in paint and dirty water on stage?
Sidney was furious.
“Serena, whether you did this or not, you’re cleaning up the venue today! If this delays the welcome party…”
“I won’t do it.”
Sidney was speechless.
Serena added, “If I clean it, I’m afraid your welcome party might not happen.”
“You-”
Serena patted her bottom and walked away, but after a few steps, she turned back, pointing at the lights, “I hung those lights, pretty, aren’t they?”
Sidney and Celeste’s faces darkened instantly.
They could somewhat guess how things had happened.
Sidney had to admit she might have underestimated this country bumpkin.
No worries, she had a second trick up her sleeve.
The Arts Department dared not ask Serena to do anything anymore.

They feared her involvement; their painstakingly planned welcome party might indeed not happen.
On Tuesday, the performance list needed confirmation.
In principle, each class submits their entries, and the Arts Department selects the most suitable for a high–quality evening performance.
In the morning, Morgan entered Class 19 with the list. She had her reasons for personally notifying them.
“Class 19’s three entries are Natalie’s solo dance, Sophia and others‘ aerial dance, and Serena’s solo musical performance.”
“Serena? Did I hear that right?”
Natalie and Sophia, already dance students, had competed in numerous dance contests and were undoubtedly skilled, but Serena’s musical solo?
Wasn’t she just saying yesterday that she couldn’t do anything?
“Unfortunately, it didn’t make the cut.”
Rowan sighed.
Despite her insecurities, she also dreamt of dancing.
But with so many in dance and vocal music, and given her own appearance…
She touched her cheek, noticing her scars seemed fainter recently, though still frightening.
What was she even hoping for?
Turning to see the indifferent Serena, she clenched her fist to encourage her.
“Serena, good luck!”
Serena stared at Morgan; she hadn’t signed up for any performance; she just watched these
clowns‘ antics.
Seeing Rowan’s reaction, a wicked smile briefly crossed Morgan’s face.
“Our school is full of talented students, but since a class can’t have more than three acts, we had to make tough choices. Initially, the third entry was Rowan’s Flamenco Dance…”
Rowan’s eyes lit up. Was I chosen before? This is undoubtedly a recognition of me! It was the

She clenched her fists nervously, waiting for Morgan to continue.

Morgan said, “The Arts Department has a new vice president, and the vice president wants to perform to gain everyone’s approval. We couldn’t really refuse her.”
Pausing, her smile radiant, “Serena, you really need to give it your all! Your opportunity came at the expense of your classmate!”
The classroom fell silent.
Morgan left with satisfaction, and everyone’s gaze towards Serena turned icy.
“How could she undermine Rowan like that behind her back? That’s so shameful!”
“How can there be such a person?”
The class’s dissatisfaction, already present, now reached a peak.
Even Solstice, who disliked petty grievances, looked disapproving.
Indigo, playing with his phone, just glanced over, said nothing, and showed no emotion.
Amidst unbearable remarks and undisguised disdain,
Rowan stood up abruptly, “It was me who twisted my ankle and couldn’t dance, so I asked Serena to replace me! You shouldn’t slander her like this!”
She was heartbroken that Serena had betrayed her. But she didn’t want to lose the only person who had never despised her!
Yet, why did it hurt so much inside? Her heart ached, and she wanted to cry.
