Chapter 41 A Useful Lever
Fincatied
The moment Serena appeared, the four guards noticed her, their eyes snapping toward her at the same time.
That kind of alertness wasn’t something ordinary soldiers possessed.
Under the weight of four stares, she acted as if she didn’t feel a thing–her expression blank, gaze casually drifting upward toward the floors above. While they all remained tense and on guard, she took a long sip of her milk tea.
The guards said nothing.
Serena glanced once more, then turned and walked away.
She sent a message to Zephyr: “You have people hospitalized at Evervale City General Hospital?”
The All–Seeing Net operated entirely in the shadows. They were a covert force, unknown to ordinary citizens.
“Xavier Fern and his team. A year ago, they were ambushed while taking down The Serpent. Disappeared for three days, and when we found them, they were in a coma they’ve never woken from.”
The Serpent was the branch of Team GF9 that had fled overseas.
Zephyr hesitated before adding, “Leon Fern, Xavier’s cousin, is running The All–Seeing Net in Evervale City now. He’s got a grudge against Team GF9–don’t provoke him.”
No one could blame him; anyone would hold a grudge if their own family ended up like that.
“Leon–the one who doesn’t touch women?”
“That’s him!”
“Got it.”
It wasn’t until later that Zephyr realized–how did Serena know Leon didn’t touch women?
She had likely already guessed the man’s identity. If even hackers couldn’t dig up his file, if he couldn’t be around women yet was seen here… it could only be Leon.
Within Clovencia, aside from Iron Wolf, there was no one she truly feared.
From the nurse’s description, Xavier and the others had probably been struck by The Serpent’s

Reaper’s Needle. Others couldn’t treat it—but she could. That made it another valuable bargaining chip in her hand.
Back in the ward, Thanos was still gaming.
“Give me twenty dollars,” Serena said.

Thanos looked up at the milk tea in her hand and immediately understood. He pulled out his wallet and handed over twenty.
“Plus ten for the delivery fee.”
He froze. “Even food delivery only costs three dollars. I’ve ordered it before–don’t try to scam me!”
“You got three dollars?”
His chin lifted. As the Morrow family’s son, the smallest bill he carried was a ten; the loose change always got tossed to beggars.
In the end, he handed her the ten for the delivery fee. At this rate, with Serena buying him a hundred dollars‘ worth of milk tea each week, he was beginning to suspect he was getting the worse end of the deal.
Serena keyed in a WhatsApp number.
Sebastian, seeing the friend request, was momentarily surprised but accepted. A message came through at once:
“Your brow is clouded–you’ll soon face a mortal danger. I have a secret formula that can cure you.”
Sebastian stared at the screen.
When no reply came, Serena double–checked her message. Russell Ryan had taught her that if you lacked status or connections, the way to win trust was to play mysterious and profound.
Three minutes later, the reply came: “How much?”
Serena checked his WhatsApp status–empty. But judging from the watch he’d been wearing earlier, he was wealthy. She decided to test the waters.
“Five hundred thousand dollars per month.”
“Fine.”
She blinked. No bargaining?

“I misspoke–one million per month.”
“No deal.” The answer was quick and final.
“Fine, I’ll consider it a good deed for the day.” She even managed to sound a little wronged.
“Heh.” His reply was short, faint.
From the passenger seat, Noah glanced back. Was Mr. Hayes… smiling?
Distracted, Sebastian’s Hummer swerved, earning a chorus of blaring horns.
Lebron stayed in the hospital for a week, stabilizing far faster than the doctors expected. Even the green tinge to his skin faded more quickly than in any previous episode.
The doctor studied the latest reports in disbelief.
Just days ago, the boy had looked like he was on death’s door. Today, his indicators were no different from an ordinary person’s–and the treatment plan was exactly the same as before.
“Dr. Zimmerman, you’re incredible!” Olivia’s gratitude was heartfelt.
Zimmerman’s smile was stiff. If he didn’t know his own actual skills, he might have believed her praise and thought himself a miracle doctor.
“Ahem… let’s stay calm, shall we?”
Serena, however, was satisfied with the results. Her secret massages and acupuncture sessions these past days hadn’t been for nothing.
They said alternative medicine worked slowly–but that depended on the illness. When the right treatment met the right condition, the effect could be immediate. The ones who needed months for results were usually experimenting on patients or simply incompetent, relying on pure luck to get anything right.
