He couldn’t let this ruin his daughter’s bright future. “Ahem, it’s nothing. Go get back to work.”
That afternoon, Indigo was heading home after meeting with Kelly when he spotted Serena walking out of a high–end neighborhood that didn’t match her supposed background.
Serena had barely stepped out before she sensed someone tailing her. She had planned to hail a cab, but instead made a series of confusing turns, leading the pursuer in circles.
The more she did this, the more Indigo grew curious about what shady business she was hiding.
When they reached an alley, a passing car blocked his view for only a few seconds time it moved, she was gone.
Indigo rushed forward and accidentally bumped into a thug.
“Pay up!”
Indigo couldn’t be bothered. He tossed him a hundred yuan and kept moving.

The thug froze. What the hell? At least struggle a bit before surrendering — make it easier on my pride. And what’s with that charity toss like I’m a beggar?
A veteran of Evervale City’s backstreets, the thug had never been insulted like this. He grabbed Indigo. “Nice watch you got there!”
“Let go.” Indigo’s expression was cold and arrogant.
“Heh.” The thug liked this kind of cocky type

they were more fun to beat down.
He waved his hand, and five or six guys closed in…
Looked like there’d be no easy way out.
Fights had never scared Indigo.
With one kick, he sent a man flying, and in just a few swift moves, the five thugs were down.
He dusted off his hands and picked up his bag growing louder.
–
only to hear the sound of hurried footsteps
The warning was clear, but it was already too late to run. A dozen men with sticks blocked both ends of the alley.

“Hey, where do you think you’re going? You think you can hit my buddy and walk away?”
Indigo narrowed his eyes. He didn’t believe anyone would dare attack him in broad daylight. And even if they did, a passerby would surely call the police.
He didn’t back down, but even he couldn’t hold out forever against a dozen armed men. After taking blow after blow, he finally heard more footsteps.
He looked up, ready to call for help and froze when he saw the newcomer.
It was a girl.
–
A baseball cap and mask hid most of her face, and she was holding a cup of milk tea.
She took a leisurely sip. “Slurp-”
Indigo was speechless.
“Need a hand?” Serena asked.
No shit! Do you not see me getting beaten half to death?
But he couldn’t admit defeat, especially in front of a girl.
Wham, wham—
After taking a few more punches, he finally spat it out. “Yes!”
“Admit that I’m your boss!”
Indigo couldn’t say it. A man could be killed but not humiliated.
He had his pride.
Serena wasn’t in any hurry. She leaned against the wall, sipping her milk tea like she had all the time in the world.
Her attitude infuriated him. She was clearly enjoying the show.
Indigo summoned an unprecedented burst of strength and launched a fierce counterattack.
The thugs, blood boiling, were starting to get vicious. The leader pulled out a knife.
–
With his hands blocking punches and his legs fending off kicks, Indigo had no way to dodge – his unprotected stomach was right in the path of the blade.
“Boss! You’re my boss!” Indigo finally shouted the words that would haunt him for life.

Serena’s almond eyes curved with satisfaction. Her milk tea flew from her hand, hitting the knife–wielder’s forearm dead on.
The dagger clattered to the ground. Before he could react, a foot slammed into his gut, sending him flying into a wall.
“You’re dead!” the thugs roared, swinging their sticks at her.
Serena grabbed one end of a stick, twisted, and wrenched it from the man’s grip. With a clean sweep, she sent several tumbling to the ground and even smacked Indigo’s shin in the
process.
—
Indigo was speechless. She hit me by accident… I can’t hold that against her… right?
Of course not.
Then came the second blow. The third.
Indigo was knocked flat on his back.
Out of the corner of her eye, Serena caught sight of him and was very satisfied she was stronger than him, like a real boss.

this was proof
Indigo lay there, unable to speak from the pain. But the girl’s wicked smile was captivating, her silhouette in the setting sun falling over him, each sharp line and curve flawless.
His heart skipped a beat.
The thugs, howling in pain, scrambled to escape.
Perhaps from the exertion, her mask had slipped halfway down her face. Indigo finally saw her clearly – and his face darkened, his aloof demeanor flaring back to full strength.
“So this whole scene was your setup, wasn’t it? What do you want from me?”
