Chapter 49 The Value of 500,000 Dollars
Naturally, this wasn’t something common folk had the right to discuss.
Serena nodded to herself. So it was that second–rate Miller family,

Of course, it wasn’t her original creation either. She’d pieced it together from ancient texts unearthed in a great tomb on Shadowridge Mountain.
For the Miller family to claim they’d invented it? That took some nerve,
When Zayden finished the twenty–seven–needle sequence, he was dripping with sweat, But Sebastian showed no sign of waking–only a slight improvement in his pulse.
“That’s it?” Serena asked.
What did she mean, “that’s it“? If you didn’t understand, you shouldn’t talk nonsense. Did she have any idea how intricate this acupuncture was?
Zayden couldn’t even be bothered to answer her. “We’ll take the needles out in half an hour. Look after Mr. Hayes I’m going to wash up”
Serena neither agreed nor disagreed,
True Blackgate Acupuncture was tailored to the patient. Whether it was nine needles, twenty- seven, or even eighty–one, there was no fixed sequence it all depended on the person’s condition.
Clearly, Catherine had lifted a treatment Novan had used once and simply copied it here. It didn’t really suit Sebastian’s constitution, so naturally the effect was limited.
Serena didn’t touch Zayden’s needles, but she did pair them with pressure–point massage on other meridians.
Two hours later, Sebastian woke. The redness and swelling from his allergic reaction were gone, and he looked far more at case,
“Mr. Hayes, you’re awake!”
Sebastian’s eyes first landed on Zayden.
Then he scanned the room and saw Serena, “You’ve worked hard.”

Zayden was dumbstruck. I’m the one who worked hard, and you’re thanking her?
“It wasn’t hard,” Serena replied. “You paid me.”
Sebastian and Zayden both stared at her.

“Since you’re fine, I’ll head back.” She turned toward the door, then paused. “That three hundred thousand dollars – you haven’t transferred it to that account yet, have you? Send it to me in cash.”
Now that Arbor had already repaid Nathan, there was no reason to hand him an extra three hundred thousand.
Without another word of concern or even a hint of a warm expression, she shouldered her bag and left.
Zayden’s face twisted. “Mr. Hayes, how can you hire someone like that? She doesn’t know a thing about medicine – she’s just conning you for your money!”
“I have money.”
“…What?”
“I don’t know if she understands medicine, but I know I’m not allergic to her.”
Zayden had no answer to that.
Miller’s Acupuncture might be a powerful emergency measure, capable of pulling Sebastian back from the brink time and again, but it couldn’t change the fundamental fact of his allergy to women. That was why his condition worsened day by day.
If they couldn’t find a cure, it would only be a matter of time before the incremental damage reached a tipping point and destroyed his immune system completely.
Now, however, there was a woman he wasn’t allergic to. Perhaps she held the key to breaking his condition.
Zayden silently vowed to find a treatment for Mr. Hayes temptress never got the upper hand.

After reviewing the medical records, Noah’s brows lifted in surprise. “Mr. Hayes, your heart rate and blood metrics are a bit better than last time. And you woke up fifteen minutes sooner.”
Sebastian gave a slight nod. Maybe that half–million fee had been worth it. “Prepare three hundred thousand in cash and send it to her.”
That afternoon, Nathan was enjoying a rare, leisurely cup of tea at home.

No need to scramble for money for the main branch, and with a connection to Hayes Corp, he felt like he was soaring.
Then Wren called. “Mr. Nathan, the bidding meeting is next week. You’d better be ready.”
“What? Bidding?”
Hadn’t Hayes Corp already earmarked three hundred thousand dollars to open the back door for him?
“Hayes Corp has withdrawn the funding…”
Nathan froze. His stomach sank.
Had he offended Hayes Corp? But he hadn’t done anything lately.
Just then, Kelly came in from outside.
“Kelly, have you heard anything from Hayes Corp?” Nathan asked.
She blinked. “Why?”
Nathan told her about the revoked funding.
Her expression flickered but quickly smoothed out. “The final selection hasn’t happened yet. If Hayes Corp interfered in the Wading Waters Bay project for my sake, and it got out, there would be backlash.”
Nathan’s face went stiff. In his excitement, he might have mentioned the special funding from Hayes Corp to a few business partners.
