Chapter 53 Back to School
Serena tried to comfort him. “School’s a lot of fun.”
“R-Really?”

Hearing her say that, Thanos shivered for some reason. “Yeah, real fun-she’s got the whole school wrapped around her finger.”
Normally, new students were the ones who got bullied. Serena, on the other hand, bullied the whole school.
He picked up her backpack. “I’m playing basketball today. Want me to send you a video?”
Lebron didn’t answer, his eyes fixed only on Serena.
Arbor ruffled his hair. “Lebron, say goodbye to Serena. We’ll come pick her up after school.” He completely ignored Thanos.
Thanos was speechless.
Lebron quickly leaned out the window to wave.
His pale green-tinged hand caught the open air, and he instinctively pulled it back into the car.
For some reason, the flash of fear on his face made Serena’s chest tighten. It was a strange feeling-foreign, yet it struck her deep.
She waved back, dimples appearing on her cheeks.
Sweet.
A faint smile tugged at Lebron’s lips. He dropped his gaze, the tips of his ears flushing red. Fishing a candy from his pocket, he popped it into his mouth, the sweetness spreading all the way to his heart.
Zachary had been waiting for Serena to show up at school. Last week, getting up at six every day had nearly drained his patience and determination dry.
When he finally saw her walking through the gates, he ditched any attempt at posturing, swinging his bag over his shoulder and striding past her in an obvious way, shooting her a look she couldn’t ignore.
Only for Thanos to yank her aside. “Got no eyes? Watch where you’re going!”

Zachary froze for a full three seconds.
Then he caught Serena’s cool, indifferent glance.
“Yeah, his eyes aren’t great. Come on-you’ve got to focus on getting into Howerton University, don’t you?”

It was only after mouthing off that Thanos realized this was Serena’s biological younger brother. He couldn’t exactly push it further.
Watching them walk away, Zachary felt utterly wronged. He’d waited a whole week for this?
Taking some outsider’s side and saying his eyesight was bad? Didn’t know a good thing when it smacked her in the face!
He kicked at the air in frustration. “Even if you give me a console later, I won’t take it! You can forget about coming back to the Reed family for the rest of your life! Hmph!”
Serena and Thanos headed to the Main Office to clear her absence.
Sequoia was there with Kelly, talking to Quartz about something. The moment she spotted Serena, Sequoia’s chin nearly tilted up to the ceiling.
“Do what you promised,” Serena said lightly.
Sequoia’s face darkened. She turned and pulled Kelly away.
“What did she mean by that?” Kelly asked.
Was Sequoia going to tell her that she’d lost a math problem to Serena?
“Kelly, just do well on this month’s exam and take first place back. Let’s see how cocky she is then.”
Kelly brimmed with confidence. “As long as she doesn’t cheat, I’ve got it in the bag.”
She was the Morrow family’s heiress, raised with the best education Evervale City could offer -how could some adopted country bumpkin beat her?
Quartz processed the siblings’ return, looking like he had something to say several times but holding back.
When Serena transferred into Class 19, it had been like unsealing a devil. First Kennedy had trouble, then Celeste broke her hand, and rumors said she’d thrown the Arts Department into chaos. Her week-long absence had been the most peaceful stretch he’d had in ages. Now the

“Serena, you must be tired from looking after your younger brother. How about taking a few more days off?” Quartz coaxed with a smile.
“No,” Serena said flatly. “I’ve missed school.”
Quartz felt the chill climb up his spine, the hairs on his neck standing on end.
By the time Serena left the office, word had already spread. From the Building B, voices rang
out-
“Serena’s back!”
The shout carried excitement, surprise, and a trace of fear-just not joy.
It was homeroom reading time, with no teacher in the room, so plenty of students leaned out to look.
Thanos, walking with her, noticed the stares from above. “Wow, I’m pretty popular. Just a week away and everyone’s this excited to see me.” He waved up at them.
All the heads instantly ducked out of sight.
“Guess they’re shy,” he muttered.
Serena said nothing.
When she stepped into the classroom, Rowan rushed over to hug her. “Serena, you’re finally back!”
Rowan clasped her hand, steering her to her seat, while everyone else kept their eyes down and their mouths shut.
Serena only cast a faint glance around.
Finally, Solstice broke the silence, walking up to her. “Hey, Serena-the welcome party, our class won a team award.”
