When Two Winters Met (Henrietta and Yosef) novel Chapter 147

Henrietta looked at him coolly. “Even if what you said was true, I would never be with you. If you don’t own a mirror, I suggest you find a puddle and take a good look at yourself.”

Leon fell silent. Not just because of the stinging insult, but because he realized that if Henrietta wouldn’t be with him, what had he gained by revealing all this? He was finished!

Just then, Winona entered with several security guards, Joaquin trailing behind her.

“Need any help?” Joaquin offered.

Henrietta ignored him completely, addressing the guards. “Take him away. Lock him in Matteo’s private lounge.”

The guards seized Leon and dragged him out. As they did, a cold calm settled over him. He had known it was a gamble. He hadn’t really expected a proud woman like Henrietta to agree to be with him, even with the information he offered. But he had hoped to at least win her trust, to become a confidant. Given time, he might have been able to win her over.

It was a high-stakes bet, and he had lost spectacularly. He couldn’t believe it. Henrietta hadn’t just rejected him; she was only concerned about her company’s bottom line. Did she not believe him because… deep down, she still had feelings for Matteo? Did she secretly want to get back together with him?

That had to be it. When a woman refused to believe that her man was a cheat, it was usually because she was still in love.

And what was this about locking him up?

“What happened?” Winona asked once they were alone. “Why’d you have Leon locked up?”

Henrietta’s face was grim. She looked at Joaquin. “I have business to attend to. Please leave.”

Joaquin raised an eyebrow, noting her serious expression. “You sure you don’t need my help?”

“This is none of your business.”

He shrugged. “Fine, I’m out.”

Once Joaquin was gone, Henrietta took out her phone, unblocked Matteo’s number, and dialed.

Matteo nearly jumped for joy when he saw her name on his screen. She had blocked him for so long, and now she was calling him. Had she finally cooled down? Did she miss him?

“Henrietta, you called…” he said, his voice soft and hopeful.

“Get to my office. Now,” she said icily, interrupting him. She hung up and immediately blocked his number again.

“Okay, what is going on?” Winona asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.

Henrietta rubbed her temples and recounted the entire sordid affair.

Winona, who had been sipping coffee, choked and sprayed it everywhere. “Holy crap! That’s insane! Where did that moron get the confidence, the sheer nerve, to proposition you?”

Henrietta shrugged. “Maybe it’s not that surprising. There are a lot of delusional men out there who somehow manage to land amazing women. Maybe those odds gave him a false sense of hope.”
