Jolie pointed a trembling finger at Matteo’s phone. “He actually… he dared…”
Matteo was shaking with rage. He never would have imagined Leon would pull a stunt like this. After all, Leon owed his entire career and comfortable life to their family.
“Henrietta!” Matteo shot up from his seat and rushed toward her. “Everything he said is a lie! He’s slandering me, trying to ruin my name! None of it is true. My devotion to you is absolute. He’s just gotten too ambitious and started fantasizing about you, so he made up all those lies to destroy me!”
The fact that Henrietta had clearly stated her disbelief in the video didn’t stop Matteo’s frantic denial. He was sweating, his expression terrified, which only served to highlight his guilt. It was obvious he was scared of his career being ruined, of losing everything.
The more he panicked, the more Henrietta looked forward to the day her trap finally sprung.
Henrietta glanced at Winona. “Bring Leon in.”
“My pleasure,” Winona chirped, eager for more drama.
Matteo looked at Henrietta, his lips trembling. “Hen…”
Before he could continue, she cut him off. “As I’ve already made clear, if you’re ruined, half the company goes down with you. I poured my heart and soul into this business.”
Matteo visibly relaxed. It seemed Henrietta would never destroy his career, no matter what. He was safe.
“And the claims about cheating and scheming are completely baseless! How could I be that kind of person?” he added for good measure. “Henrietta, you don’t believe him, do you?”
She didn’t answer.
Matteo frowned, but then reminded himself that in the video, she had explicitly said she didn’t believe a word. That was it. She still had feelings for him; she must still love him deeply. Why else would she trust him so completely?
Winona returned with Leon in tow.
The moment Jolie saw him, she lunged like a wild animal, kicking and punching him while screaming, “You wanted to divorce me for someone else? You heartless bastard!”
Leon knew he had lost everything. He didn’t fight back or make a sound, simply letting Jolie beat and claw at him. Within moments, bloody scratches crisscrossed his face.
Matteo, consumed by his own fury, joined in, landing several heavy blows to Leon’s face, causing blood to spurt from his nose and mouth. Jolie didn’t let up, grabbing Leon’s hair and slapping him repeatedly, each crack echoing in the silent office.
Henrietta calmly sat in the lounge area, taking a sip of coffee with Winona as they watched the spectacle.
Leon remained limp, a look of resignation on his face. But Matteo and Jolie were far from finished, their anger fueling their assault as they continued to beat and curse him.
Henrietta remained perfectly composed, even clinking her glass with Winona’s. Watching Leon get beaten to a pulp was strangely satisfying. She hadn’t needed to lift a finger; his own family was doing the dirty work for her.
Winona leaned in close. “Talk about poetic justice. A den of vipers turning on each other.”
Henrietta simply sipped her coffee, not bothering to intervene.
