“Let’s just drop it,” Henrietta said. “It’s too much trouble.”
Henrietta wasn’t the type to stir up drama and escalate things.
“You’re right,” Charlotte agreed. “If this blows up and Artina actually quits the movie, it would ruin your plan.”
“It doesn’t matter,” Henrietta said coolly. “If she pushes me, I can leak the story anytime. But she hasn’t crossed a line, and she hasn’t pursued the issue, so there’s no need for us to dwell on it. While I could expose them now, it wouldn’t be as satisfying as letting them fly a little closer to the sun first.”
Charlotte paused for a moment before saying, “Okay, I get it. I’m sorry, Henrietta. I was too impulsive.”
“It’s not your fault. Don’t blame yourself,” Henrietta reassured her.
A warmth spread through Charlotte’s chest. She kept it simple, “Alright. Love you.”
Henrietta smiled. “Love you too.”
After they hung up, Winona walked over from the lounge area. “I just asked around. No one in the industry has heard about Artina getting engaged to someone powerful. But how could an outsider get Charlotte’s dad's private number?”
“It’s not surprising,” Henrietta said. “This is just the beginning. They’re keeping it quiet either because they don’t think it’s a big deal yet, or because they’re afraid it might fall through.”
Winona nodded in understanding.
“For now, let’s just leave it and see what happens,” Henrietta added.
“Okay,” Winona agreed.
...
That evening, after dinner, Henrietta received a call from Sabrina.
Sabrina mentioned she’d been feeling a bit dizzy lately and wanted to go to the hospital for a full check-up. She asked if Henrietta was free to accompany her.
“Of course,” Henrietta said immediately. “I’ll come pick you up tomorrow morning.” Then, her voice filled with concern, she asked, “Mom, are you feeling unwell anywhere else?”
Sabrina chuckled. “No, that’s it. Don’t worry, this is just what happens when you get older.”
The words left a bitter taste in Henrietta’s mouth. “You’re not old, you’re as young as ever. Get some rest, don’t overthink things. I’ll be home for breakfast with you tomorrow morning.”
“Alright,” Sabrina said, her voice cheerful. “I’ll let you go then. Get some rest.”
“You too, Mom,” Henrietta replied.
“Maybe?” Yosef arched an eyebrow, his gaze turning teasingly intense.
Under his steady gaze, Henrietta’s face grew warmer until she finally gave in. “I miss you.” Whether it was true or not, her instincts told her that was the right thing to say.
Yosef seemed satisfied.
Calvert thought Yosef was about to cave and tell her he’d be back in two days. Instead, he said, “I’m sorry, it might still be a while.”
Calvert was speechless. He never knew Mr. Nash could be so sly.
“Oh,” Henrietta nodded. “Okay.”
“Rest well,” Yosef said.
“You too.”
After they hung up, Henrietta found she couldn’t sleep. A while longer? How long was a while? Three months, five, or even more?
Suddenly, something occurred to her. She still hadn’t posted their official marriage announcement online. If she waited any longer, it would start to get awkward. With that thought, she quickly got out of bed to find her marriage certificate, deciding to post a photo just like his.
