Henrietta nodded. “Good. Don’t worry, Quinton will take good care of you, and the Sargent family never mistreats its daughters-in-law.”
After lunch, it was time to try on the dresses.
Sherry went to the fitting room while Henrietta and Quinton sat on the sofa to watch and give their opinions.
Trying on wedding dresses was a tedious process; it wasn’t something you could do in a few minutes.
During the wait, Quinton couldn't resist speaking to her. “Henrietta, have… have you been well lately?”
Henrietta turned to look at Quinton, feeling a momentary daze.
Have… I been well?
I guess so.
If it weren't for the whole situation with Britney, she probably… would be feeling a bit like Sherry right now.
But she had already come to terms with that.
After a few seconds, Henrietta said, “I’m fine. Very well, in fact. You don’t need to worry about me, Quinton. I’m not a three-year-old. I know how to live a good life.”
“As for you…” Henrietta said seriously, “You’re about to get married. Since… you’ve decided to marry her, you need to treat her well. And when you have children, you must be a responsible husband and father.”
Quinton stared at her deeply, not saying a word.
After a moment, his Adam’s apple bobbed. “Right. I know.”
What child would he and Sherry ever have?
None.
He didn't want to have children with any other woman.
He only wanted…
Just then, Sherry came out, looking a little shy as she showed off the wedding dress. “How’s this one?”
Henrietta pursed her lips. “It’s lovely. Very nice.”
The dress fitting dragged on for a long time, not ending until dinnertime.
Sherry had picked out many dresses and tried on just as many.
She was also incredibly indecisive.
In the end, she had a total of ten dresses that she really loved.
But Henrietta refused. “No, I’m going back to Elysium Manor to eat.”
With that, she gave Sherry a small smile, grabbed her bag, and left.
Sherry was a bit stunned and turned to look at Quinton.
She saw that his gaze was fixed on Henrietta’s retreating figure, deep and lingering.
Sherry frowned slightly. “Did we take too long? Is Henrietta upset?”
Quinton didn’t respond. He hadn’t heard a word she said; his eyes were still on Henrietta.
“Quinton,” Sherry said, tugging on his sleeve.
He finally snapped out of it. “Hmm? What?”
Sherry repeated her question.
Quinton said, “She’s probably not upset. She’s always like this.”
She leaves when she wants to leave, and she doesn't eat if she doesn't want to eat. She won't change her mind just to keep up appearances.
Of course, she would give people face when she felt they deserved it.
