Chapter 173
“MMM. MMM!” I clear my throat before my mate can say another word
Laura looks at me.
1 hold up my bottle and pont.
“I can’t open it.” I stretch my hand out to Emris. “Would you be a darling?”
Emris takes the bottle with a light snicker and his fingers brush mine. His eyes are laughing at me…cause he knows exactly what I’m doing.
“So… Laura looks between us. “She’s what to you?”
“I’m his-”
“We found her on the roadside when she was a kid” Emris twists the cap off. “My family took her in so she’s like a sister to me”
I squeeze my fist. “No one found me on the roadside-
“If that’s true, then you should come off your high horse, Miss Pride. I’m pretty sure someone as important as Alpha Emris has a lot to do. And yet he’s here, deciding to become an educator, just so you could continue being a student.”
“E–excuse me!?”
I look at Emris and he hands me the bottle. I don’t take it.
“I’ll see you in the professors‘ lodge.” Laura smiles at Emris.
Something grows in my chest. Something hot. Something green. Something that terribly wants to strike-
I don’t think I waited for Laura to completely get out of the vicinity before I yell.
“Professors‘ lodge!?!
“People are gonna hear.” Emris grabs my arm. “Let’s talk outside.”
I don’t move so he ends up dragging me forward until I’m following him out of the hallway and out of the building doors. The moment we’re outside, he lets go.
The afternoon sun spikes into my eyes. I blink, squint, try to see. Emris steps into the light, blocking it with his body I’m standing in the shadow of his build so I don’t have to.
I scoff away from him. I don’t need him being a shield-
“It was the only way to keep you in Wolf Arts. Should I have said no?”
“You-
“Yeah, I what? You ungrateful Luna.”
“Why were you talking to that girl!?”
“What girl? Laura?”
“No. Hale!”
Emris chuckles.

“It’s not funny. Emris.” I unfold and refold my arms because I can’t decide what to do with them. “You were talking to her all smiley. Shaking hands. Being all…all friendly. And now, you’re going to be staying in the professors lodge. You’re not actually a professor and…did you even see Lake sitting at that table? Did you see the nameplate?
“Yeah, let’s talk about Lake.” His voice loses the amusement.
“When exactly were you planning to tell me he’s a professor here?”
“It’s not my fault he’s a professor here. How would I have known before I got here? I found out like a few days ago and I chose to pay it no mind so that closes the case.”
Emris steps back into my space.
“I’m not angry about Lake. The Lycan knows he lost against me. His wolf won’t even look me in the eyes if we’re in the same room. So that’s about it. Regardless, you need training. And we’d never be able to train enough if we only saw each other once a week at the Rockville house. So it makes sense that I’m closer to you now.”
I want to roll my eyes. At him. At Honey. That she–wolf plays both sides all the damn time, and I’m seeing it first–hand.
“When you pass Mascot,” he continues, “you get transferred from the general dorm to the professors lodge. It’s a penthouse situation. We’d be closer-”
I won’t lie. The penthouse part lands.
I feel the image of a real bed, real space, not the dorm room that Lolly and I have been navigating with sixteen bags and one bathroom.
“Whatever, I’m still upset. This doesn’t change anything.”
I turn to walk away-
“I love you,”
I don’t say it back. I keep walking.
“Demi.” His voice follows me. “Do we still have our date tonight?”
I don’t answer that either.
I keep my face forward and I am absolutely not smiling when the school doors open and Silver comes out with his arms already open and I walk directly into them and hug him.
“Saw the video. You did good.”
“It got me in trouble, you know that.”
“Nothing the broody wolf can’t fix.” He says it over my shoulder, and I know without looking that he’s making eye contact with Emris as he says it.
We both can hear Emris trying to get my attention.
“He wants to have a date tonight.”
“Or you could have a date with me instead.” I smile.
“Right?” Silver whispers with a chuckle. “We’ve got a chef. Nice kitchen. I’m told the hot tub is impressive-
“Ugh.” I scrunch my face. “If I come I won’t be able to escape Emris all evening.”

Which is true so I change my mind even though the idea sounds good. It’s only been a few days, and I’m definely hungry for a nice five–star mal. Something that isn’t vending machine snacks and dining hall mystery meat.
should I go? At least it will give Wren some fresh air after what happened to her. Plus, I need to get to the sickbay so I car
At to her
Done” Silver says and I lean up to kiss him on the cheek. I know it lands in Emris’s peripheral vision from wherever h standing behind me and I feel Silver’s quiet laugh against my hair.
You’re terrible Luna.” Silver murmurs.
I know…” I say pleasantly and go into the building.
