You wanna to talk about rule… I remember when Derisha pumped money in this school and those rules got overturned very quickly for my sake. So let’s not pretend the rules are immovable when the right person asks.”

“You want to bribe me.” She uncrosses and recrosses her legs. “Don’t. Give me something else instead. I hear you’re doing a pack tour. Building alliances, visiting territories, doing good works for the community.”

“Just because Wolf Arts wasn’t good for you doesn’t mean it isn’t good for others. Demetra found out she was a White Omega in Rocksville. Someone in this school must have helped her find that pack. So.” She lifts an eyebrow. “The institution is clearly doing something right.”

“Tell me what the school needs financially and I’ll write the number.”

Honey gets up and doesn’t look at the phone I’ve pulled out. Moves to the window instead to stand with her back to me….I know this move.

The conference room reassembles its attention the moment we step back in. I move toward my seat and before I’m fully in it I find Demetra’s eyes across the room. Looks like she’s been watching the door since we left. I can tell from the way she’s positioned, the slight lean forward, the hands that are not quite still.

I give her one wink that means handled, stand down, you’re fine.

I watch her shoulders drop by half an inch in relief. Laura Hale stops whispering to the person beside her.

Her violet eyes find me from across the table like she’s also been waiting to see what I came back with and is now reading the result off my face.

“Back to the vote. I don’t believe we should vote her out.” Honey says and they all look!
