Chapter 180
Chapter 180
Luna Demetra.
I have never gotten up that fast in my life. Travis pulls me back the moment I’m on my feet and the only word be says 20
“RUN!”
Lolly is first in front of us as we start running. I see her ponytail whipping behind her, arms pumping, and her legs rating up the forest floor. I jump over a tree trunk, doing my best got to look back, not to see what’s following us
Wren goes down.
One second she’s beside me and the next she hits the ground and Travis gets her up with one hand without breaking pace basically carrying her forward as her feet find their rhythm again, and we are all running in a way that has nothing to do with exercise.
Then Axis appears on our left.
He’s mid-shift and it is awful.
His neck is moving wrong… jerking, snapping side to side with the erratic violence of something not fully in control of its own transition. His jaw unhinges and his teeth multiply, rows of them, yellow fangs. His eyes roll back, then forward, then back again, and when they finally lock on me specifically.
They’re feral. And he’s drooling.
1 remember exactly what I said to him. The barbie playpen comment. Him being on his knees in front of Emris after vomiting. Thick strands of saliva hang from his open mouth, swinging as his head twitches. He’s looking at me like I’m dinner. Like I’m prey so I understand that this is personal.
Before I can process it, Axis rises into the air.
He jumps higher than any wolf should be able to jump. He hangs there for a second, suspended, like gravity forgot about
him.
Then lands directly in front of us.
The ground shakes and dust clouds around his feet.
He straightens up slowly and looks at the four of us and then starts laughing manically like someone who is having the best time of his life at our expense. I back up until I feel the girls behind me.
“What the hell is this?” Travis steps forward into a fighting stance.
“I don’t have a problem with you. I just want to teach that one a lesson.” He doesn’t look at Travis when he says it. He looks ar me. “Don’t get in my way!”
“Really” Travis doesn’t move. “You usually go after real fighters. You’re going to use your full river wolf ability on someone who doesn’t even want to fight you?”
“She’s got a big mouth” Atlas tilts his head at me. “Why isn’t she talking now?
Travis turns to face us. Co. I’ll handle him.”
What about you?
Chapter 80
Just go! He’s not going to beat me.” Travis is looking at the same thing I am looking at and there is not a single fraction of fear in his face.
Lolly grabs my arm and pulls and pulls me off
I keep looking back for the first thirty seconds….trying to find Travis through the trees, trying to confirm he’s still standing and then we move around a bend and the trees close behind us and he’s gone from sight.
“The other twin may be right behind us!” Wren says without looking back
So, run harder.
The woods get darker as we go. The canopy thickens, the light drops, and at some point I realize none of us have been reading the direction signs and we have no idea where the path went and we are somewhere in these woods that is not where we started.
We stop. Breathing. All of us breathing.
“There.” Lolly points.
An arrow sign on a post, half buried in a fall of leaves, pointing left. I hesitate. The woods in that direction are dense thicker. darker and the trees packed closer together. The colors are deep green which means they don’t get much sun. Everything else around us has the yellow-brown mix of normal woodland.
The arrow says go left but I don’t trust it.
But Lolly and Wren are already moving and I don’t know what’s behind us so I rush into it with them, pushing the leaves
away
from our faces as we try to run faster.
All of a sudden, my wolf pushes me back!
I was a second short of getting slashed by Cassie’s claws.
My foot literally feels like it’s floating like I was mid-stride and something grabbed me by the ankle and yanked. I feel my wolf enter the scene. But I’m still very much here. Enough to see Cassie come down like she’d been standing in the air with her claws extended.
She would have gotten my throat.
“Now.” Cassie lands in front of me, flipping her blonde hair over her shoulder. “Travis isn’t here to save you. Why don’t you claw me like you said you would?”
“Get away from her-”
“You want your face slashed too?” Cassie looks at Lolly. “I’ll make art of it when I’m finished with Demetra.”
I feel an overwhelming surge in my veins.
I don’t think. I ust send information to my wolf and she charges.
My foot connects with Cassie’s chest, smashing her straight into a tree. The trunk shudders. Leaves rain down.
She hits it and lands on one foot, controlled, and I’m already stepping back into something that my body is calling a tighting stance even though I have never in my life stood like this before.
I look at my hands.
Chapter 180
Hook aLmy legs, This makes no sense.
I don’t know how to fight. I have never learned how to fight. But the bloodline in me is older than I am and it remembers something I don’t. And they ow-together-what I’m supposed to be doing this fight.
Cassie comes at me again.
Claws first.
She’s really bent on slashing me! Her swings are wild, vicious, aimed at my face, my throat, my chest. I start waving all of he moves…ducking, dodging, stumbling backward. I’m scared. I’m fighting a really skilled werewolf who is a product of years of actual martial work.
I am not matching her.
I’m surviving her.
My wolf evades. She reads the angle of Cassie’s shoulder and she turns us sideways. She steps us back. I am not throwing anything. I am not attacking because I don’t have practice in me to actually fight. My wolf has not taken over everything it only half and shit, I wished it would take over like it did in the white omega pack cause right now.
Half of me is my wolf.
A
Half of me is just Demetra and she’s afraid…that’s why I’m not throwing anything.
I wave her off again, and Cassie’s leg gets stuck in a tree root. She yanks, snarls, claws at it!
“RUN!”
The girls don’t need to be told twice. We’re sprinting and I’m in ffont. I’m running as fast as I can, but Cassie gets her foot unstuck and she starts chasing us.
I can feel myself getting breathless. I have never in my life run this much or this far without rest. My lungs are burning. My legs are screaming. My heart is pounding so hard I can taste-
“Ah!”
I slip.
My foot catches nothing…but air, roots, my own exhaustion and I tumble. Rolling off the woods, spinning down a slope, my body slamming into sand as I finally roll off the shelf.
Going down what is definitively a damn cliff!
I drop off the edge, but at the same time, I grab a ledge. My fingers dig into the cold, wet root. I hold on because Lolly and Wren say me fall so I know they’re going to find me soon. They’re going to lift me up.
I look down.
There’s a gushing waterfall thundering under me. Rocks. Sharp stones that look like they’re for smashing heads in. The water is white with fury, crashing against boulders, spraying mist that soaks my face.
Now I start crying.
My arms are getting tired. My fingers are slipping. I try to lift myself, but I don’t have the strength.
Emiris! I stream
And then I remember he’s not even here.
“Lolly!? Wren!?”
I yell after them but my voice echoes off the cliff walls:
“Demetra!”
Finally, I see and hear them… lying flat over the cliff, reaching down with their hands stretching toward mine! I feel relie flood through my chest as I prepare to give them my hand until I see Cassie above them.
Neither of them sees her! She steps on Lolly’s outstretched arm and kicks off the branish I was holding. It snaps!
And I fall.
The waterfall will take me and the sound of it swallows everything. I shut my eyes because I know what’s at the bottom a do not want the last thing I see to be those rocks coming up at me.
I know I’m not going to survive this.
#
I shut my eyes.
All of a sudden, I feel myself get carried by something or somebody. I don’t open my eyes. Maybe I died aiready. Maybe Moon Goddess is kind to me. She wanted me to feel a death on pillows. So if I don’t open my eyes, I won’t get to see my o head bashed open on those rocks.
At least I don’t feel pain.
That’s alright. That’s alright. That’s alright.
I feel whatever is carrying me turn and start to walk.
Oh. Is this it? The Moon Goddess is carrying me?
Wait-
I don’t think I’m ready to go. What about my daughter? What about-
“Demetra?”
I hear Emris’s voice and I slowly open my eyes. That’s….that’s Emris staring back at me. Is he dead too? The Moon Coddess saw me die, and she decided to kill my husband so that he could join me? Wow. She’s so kind. She really didn’t want me to be lonely in the afterlife.
He puts me slowly on my feet and I stare at him.
I hold his face. It feels real under my fingers. His lips….they feel real too. That stern look in his eyes is also there. The one be gets when he’s about to yell at me for doing something-
I put my hand on his chest. His heart is at rest.
Wow, the Moon Goddess really did kill my mate so he could be here with me!?
I chuckle aloud. But I still can’t believe it’s him. No, I don’t believe it.

Chapter 180-
I place my hand on his groin. Right there. Full palm and squeeze. I need to know if it’s real-
Emris nearly dies in surprise as his whole body jerks like I just electrocuted him.
“Demetra. For moonsake-
His hips twitches forward like his body doesn’t know whether to run or beg
“You’re alive?” I whisper.
“I’m alive. You’re alive. We’re both alive.”
