Chapter 223
Luna Demetra.
I sniff smoke and cough the moment I get consciousness. I flutter my eyes open and see thick smoke in the air as I cough again, quickly stiffening the sound of my cough when I realize what happened before this moment. I think about Wren and Tiffany immediately as I open my eyes wider and take note of a number of rogues… carrying several backpacks, fires burning in clusters across what looks like cleared ground. I try to understand where exactly I’ve been brought.
Those bastards knocked me out. They weren’t running away from me….they were running to get behind me to KNOCK ME OUT.
I stay flat where I am for a moment longer, not wanting them to know I’m conscious. The sniper isn’t with me anymore. I feel small stones pressing into my scalp from the ground and notice… my hands aren’t tied which is crazy because If they considered me a threat, they would have tied me up. They didn’t.
Why are there so many fires? Do they want to cook me?
The moment I think about that, I get up and all of a sudden, there’s another dude in front of me!
The sky behind him is starting to brighten at the edges… morning coming and I see rogues gathering at a distance, watching. I see all the rogues gathering around me at this point. Oh, now I get it…they are migrating or hiding, something that fequires these many fires and this much organization or whatever. But they’re doing it in these woods.
The dude in front of me looks at me like a bad mistake and closes his eyes briefly.
“Are you okay?”
“Who the hell are you!?”
Alpha
“They call me Stone.” He says, gesturing vaguely. “I’m the Alpha of this… of this.”
He says it like he’s sick and tired of everything in here. If I were him, I would be sick too.
“Where is my sniper?”
He whistles, and someone brings it to him immediately. I blink at that. Rogues are not known for cooperation and yet he’s listening to me like especially when I don’t even sound like a damsel in distress but a spoiled brat who wandered into the wrong territory.
“Here you go.”
I get to my feet and notice that they’ve all put distance between themselves and me. That’s a first. I wonder why, though. Rogues would kidnap people from other packs and ask for ransoms that they’ll use to bet….it’s their line of business. Why are these ones different? As I look at their number.

also take notice of the fact that they are big built wolves in the midst of them. Scary, if I may sa so too. There are here in hundreds.
“I’m
sorry
for what the boys did to you,” Stone says. “I take responsibility.”
“Accountability?”
The one that calls himself Stone nods. He has a buzz cut, his body is strapped in a backpack too, and I exhale.
“I have to get to my friends-”
“You’re not going to do anything to us, are you!?” One girl says, and I look at her to see that she’s frightened.
“Why would I…” I think for a second, and then I look back at Stone. “Oh. You know I’m the Luna of the Black Covenant.”
“We don’t want any trouble.” He says again.
“I didn’t want any trouble either! I only came here looking for Emris. But it’s already morning, and I’ve missed all the damn hours I should have used to find him because of those-”
I bite my lip and remind myself firmly not to cry in front of strangers.
“We’re sorry.” Stone says again, and this time he raises both his hands. “But I promise you, the Alpha can never be here.”
“This is the densest woodland in the territory. Wolves would naturally hide somewhere like!” I yell
Wolves
“That’s not what I mean-”
“What do you mean then!?”
I’m getting aggravated. I hate it when anyone tries to turn me away from or be negative when I say that I’m going to find Emris.
“He’s far gone from West Virginia already.”
“Stone.” I stare at him. “Is that your name?”
“Yeah-
T
“You’re an idiot! Stop telling me things you don’t know. It was only four days since Emris disappeared. How can he be gone? His mind is not even in the right place, and he’s left? I don know when I start to cry and yell all at the same time. “How did he leave!?”
“There’s people called wolf hunters.” Stone says quietly. “They have this sort of drug that sedates wolves, even ones in his condition. I heard he was transported two days ago jo the Sahar

What I shake my head, stepping closer to him. S. Sahara? The den of wolves”
“Yes-

“Why! Why, Why, Why. Why, Why. Why would anyone do that to int? No one in the right m would… no, first of all, why would anyone do that!?”
I start talking to myself. If Laura has him, she’s not going to it makes no sen
“Let me help you understand it, Luna Demetra. Sahara is the place for the exact thing Alpha has become. Those who seek to punish tough wolves send them there to starrender. And when the are done whooping them and throwing them into dens that will bend their wolf into submission, they bring them out and they become what you call subservient wolves. Wolves that lack confidence and will never keep their head high ever again.” He pauses.
“In the darkened state as I’ve heard Alpha Emris is in, his wolf moves by complete bloodlust. And that’s just the kind of money those Sahara bastards would make in the betting dens over there!
“Stone is right.” Another rogue steps forward. “Right now, your wolf does not feel. Does not know pain. Does not even know if his bone pops out, all he would do is fight. In the Sahara den, the pressure of being beaten and battered-”
“Can you just stop!”
I whisper it and start walking away. I just start walking, leaving the sniper behind because I need my hands to control the hot tears rolling down my face. My hands are shaking over my lips, and they cannot stop trembling as I keep moving until I see a Delta.
Kelly. She blows a whistle, and immediately, every shadow and Deltas in every single area of the woods turn on flashlights at me even though it’s already bright in the morning. I also hear growl of barghests in the air which means Slade is here.
I see him the moment I think that.
“Demetra! Demetra!”
He yells my name and is about to give me fifteen reasons why what I did makes no sense but I push past him. I see Silver running toward me next with the same shit Slade was just about to lecture me about. But I don’t stop walking away either.
