"What are you guys doing up here?" Zoe asked, out of breath.
"It was too stuffy downstairs," Sloane replied smoothly. "We didn't interrupt anything, did we?"
"No, of course not."
"Good."
Everyone played along, collectively pretending they hadn't seen a thing.

They arrived in town.
As they stepped off the ferry, Zoe took the lead. "Last time we were here, we just went to the mall. They have tons of food and entertainment, and we won't have to melt in the sun. Let's grab lunch first, and then maybe catch a movie?"
Sloane agreed. She turned to Landon. "What do you think?"
"Sounds like a plan to me," Landon said.
No one bothered to ask Logan for his opinion.
Left with no choice, he silently trailed behind Sloane.
The group hailed a taxi. Logan smoothly opened the passenger door and slid into the front seat.
The rest of them moved to get in the back, only to realize that a standard taxi only legally sat four passengers. There were five of them.
Zoe and Fred were a package deal, so they obviously couldn't be split up. But Landon absolutely refused to leave Sloane's side.
The cab driver tapped the steering wheel. "Can't fit you all. You'll have to grab a second car."
"I'll take the car behind us," Landon said smoothly. "We'll meet you at the mall."
Sloane immediately stepped back out of the cab. "I'll ride with Landon."
She slammed the door shut without a second of hesitation.
Inside the cab, Fred and Zoe exchanged incredibly awkward glances. With Logan sitting in the passenger seat, the confined space of the taxi suddenly felt dangerously claustrophobic.
Logan didn't even turn his head. He just stared dead-eyed into the rearview mirror.
