Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 238

Thanks to the intensive care she'd received over the past few days, the color had started to return to her face. But paired with her pale complexion and the oversized blue-and-white striped hospital gown, she still exuded a delicate, pitiful fragility.

Seeing Logan approach, Danielle's face immediately lit up. She looked up and called out to him in a soft, sweet voice, "Logan."

Hearing her call his name, Logan's first instinct was to turn his head and look at Sloane.

But Sloane didn't even glance his way. Keeping her eyes fixed straight ahead, she didn't break her stride. She walked right past the group, heading directly toward the staff dormitories, her retreating figure radiating sharp, absolute finality.

Danielle had already stood up and was walking toward Logan step by step. Her voice dripped with innocent curiosity as she asked, "Did you have fun in town today?"

"It was fine," Logan replied, his tone flat as he dragged his gaze away from Sloane's vanishing silhouette. He countered with a question of his own. "Did Dustin come by to take care of you today?"

Danielle smiled shyly and shook her head. "I'm being discharged tomorrow, there was no need to bother him. So, what did you guys do in town?"

"We just grabbed some food and caught a movie."

"A movie?" Danielle's eyes curved into crescents, her voice laced with wistful longing. "It's been so long since I've been to a theater. Was it good?"

Logan didn't even hesitate. He delivered his answer with brutal efficiency: "It was terrible."

The smile on Danielle's face froze instantly. She opened her mouth but couldn't seem to piece together a response.

Standing a few feet away, Zoe and Fred exchanged a look, simultaneously rolling their eyes.

Leave it to Logan Lennox to mercilessly murder a conversation with a single sentence.

Meanwhile, Landon silently slipped away, heading back to his own guest quarters.

He was scheduled to return to Capital City the next morning.

That night, Logan didn't go to Sloane's dorm to cook soup for Danielle. Instead, he ordered Dustin to deliver Danielle's dinner.

After Danielle finished eating, Logan methodically cleaned the food containers. He then turned to her and said, "I'll come by first thing in the morning to process your discharge. Get some rest tonight."

Sitting on her hospital bed, Danielle stared blankly at him, a profound sense of disappointment swirling in her eyes.

During their walk the night before, and throughout the entire trip to town today, Logan's eyes had never left Sloane.
