“They are most likely mercenaries. Their nature is similar to Greywolf. Both are armed groups hired by different powers,” someone added.

Riley Carter, one of the three Grand Marshals, turned his gaze toward the silent Hugo. “General Stanton, what do you think?”

Hugo snapped back to attention and gave a dry cough. “I think Ashwolf is different from Greywolf. Greywolf will do anything for money. The Astralis College attack two years ago was their doing. But Ashwolf’s targets have only been thieves and terrorist forces. So far, they haven’t committed any violent crimes.”

Inside, he felt miserable.

Ashwolf was not a mercenary group at all. It was simply the alias Wolffang used while operating in Chaules. But it was a secret he could never reveal.

“All irregular armed forces are terrorist organizations!” Lonnie shot back. “Ashwolf has already clashed with multiple empires. They just haven’t crossed paths with Astralis yet. Once they do, the consequences will be unpredictable!”

Hugo muttered without thinking, “You say that like you could actually do anything to them.”

The moment the words left his mouth, the entire meeting room fell into dead silence.

Only then did Hugo realize he had blurted out what he was thinking. The atmosphere instantly became awkward.

What he said was the truth. Groups like this had long become a fixed presence in Chaules. They could not be wiped out. At times, they were even needed by different nations.

The meeting ended in embarrassment. Hugo was punished on the spot with 200 push-ups for showing disrespect toward higher-ups.
