Valen shook his head. Whatever. He was just a teacher during their academy years. Why was he worrying about that?
When Thora found Tristan, he was standing outside a room with a troubled look.
“Boss, ever since this kid came back, he’s locked himself in there. He won’t talk to anyone, won’t listen to anything, and refuses to eat! We had no choice but to knock him out and put him on nutrient IVs. With how skinny he’s become, he would have collapsed from malnutrition by now.”
Tristan frowned, glancing at the small boy slumped ove the desk inside the room. “He was already in bad shape to begin with-severe malnutrition, mentally exhausted too. If this keeps up, he won’t make it.”
There was a trace of worry in his voice. No matter what, it was still a life. It was hard not to care.
“I understand. Go take care of your stuff,” Thora said with a nod.
Tristan let out a quiet sigh. “Call me if you need anything, Boss.” Then he turned and left.
Thora pushed the door open. It creaked, and a strip of light cut into the dim room
The child who had been slumped over the desk slowly lifted his head, blinking sleepily. Through his hazy vision, he saw a figure walking toward him.
He quickly rubbed his eyes. When he realized it was Thora, he jumped off the chair and rushed forward.
“Sir!”
Thora had barely stepped inside when a small pair of arms wrapped around her legs.
The grip was so light that she could easily shake him off with the slightest movement. But she didn’t.
She looked down at Elmer and gently patted his head. Her cool voice softened more than usual. “What’s wrong? I heard you wanted to see me.”
Elmer tilted his head up, staring at her. His face was pale, his features sunken, his body so thin that it was almost just skin and bones. A child who should have looked delicate and bright now resembled a refee.
He couldn’t really explain why he wanted to see her.
After being torn away from everything familiar, the only thing that gave him any sense of securi person who made him feel safe.
Children were the most sensitive and the most pure.
All he knew was that Thora made him feel steady and protected, like
pure
instinct.

Chapter 521 Stay Here
“Sir, where did you go?!” Elmer cried pitifully. “I don’t know anyone here. I’m scared. Marka is gone. Everyone is gone! You said you’d take me somewhere with no devils. I kept waiting for you.”

In Elmer’s eyes, tall people were adults. Long hair equalled girls. Short hair equalled boys. That was his simple way of telling people apart. So in his heart, Thor was like a big brother who made him feel safe.
She bent down and scooped him up with one arm.
The moment his feet left the ground, Elmer wrapped his arms tightly around her neck.
“There are no devils here,” Thora said slowly. “The people bringing you food are good guys. You need to listen to them. Understand?”
Elmer didn’t resist like before. He wiped his tears and nodded. “Okay.”
Thora set him back on the chair and moved the food in front of him. Her tone was calm but firm, leaving no room to argue. “Eat now.”
Elmer wiped his face dry. He glanced at Thora, then at the food.
Thora watched him quietly. “Boys wipe their own tears. And they eat on their own.”
His little face was still full of grievance, but he nodded obediently. “Okay.”
He picked up the spoon himself and started eating slowly.
He was young and ate at a snail’s pace, chewing each bite for an unreasonably long time.
Thora wasn’t in a hurry. She just sat beside him and watched in silence.
Based on the military academy’s investigation into Elmer, along with what they knew about the counterfeit syndicate, Thora had a clear picture of his situation.
Elmer wasn’t even six yet, but his ability had awakened unusually early.
There had to be some strange trigger. Someone discovered he could replicate objects. After that, his parents were killed by the counterfeit syndicate. He was tricked into staying, locked in a small room under heavy guard, and forced to do only one thing every day-mak counterfeit money.
For an entire year, he had been overusing his ability to produce cash nonstop.
Just as Thora had guessed before, draining an ability without restraint was like killing the goose that laid the golden eggs.
Abilities were closely tied to mental energy. Once mental energy was exhausted, that was the beginning of death.
The first time she saw Elmer, he was only five or six, yet already carried the weakness of someone near death.
“Do you eating.
have any
brothers or sisters? Do you know your pack?” Thora asked once he was almost done
Elmer shook his head. After eating, he looked a little better.
