Chapter 24
Ayla hissed in pain, her lips trembling. She looked pitiable.
“Please bear with it for a while,” Lucian’s face was etched with distress while he was gently comforting her.
The more he comforted her, the more tearful Ayla’s eyes became. Tears welled up.
I didn’t want to watch this pathetic mother-daughter performance, so I turned and walked out.
Ayla got burned, but I felt nothing. I’m not a goodie-goodie. If not for my quick reaction, it would have been me, not Ayla, with the burn.
“Seren, stop!” Lucian’s voice was cold, sharp.
He was angry with me because Ayla was burned, but he could see I felt no guilt.
I ignored him and continued walking.
Lucian released Ayla’s hand and strode towards me, grabbing my wrist and pulling me back. He harshly reprimanded, “Seren, how could you be so cruel! You burned Ayla’s hand. Don’t you know how important her hand is to her?”
I looked at Lucian, accusing me without a shred of evidence. In the past, his accusations would have saddened and upset me. I feared his misunderstanding, his dislike.
I would constantly try to justify myself. But his favoritism towards Ayla was always present.
Even with the truth before him, he’d turn a blind eye. I was just like a fool, trying to defend myself but in vain. I looked up at the imposing Alpha Lucian and sneered, “You say I burned Ayla. Where’s the proof?”
The accuser should provide proof, at least. There were no witnesses when this accident happened. That’s why Ayla dared to plan to burn my hand with boiling water in the first place.
Seeing this, Willow clung to Lucian’s leg, crying and shouting, “Daddy, I saw Ms. Seren burn Mom with boiling water. Mom taught me that when pups made mistakes, they should admit their faults. Why doesn’t Mrs. Seren admit her mistakes?”
“Don’t cry. Dad believes in you.” Lucian comforted Willow.
Looking up again, his face and tone were like frost. “Willow’s words are proof! She’s only five years old. How could a pup lie?”
