Chapter 34 Harmony Media
“I’m just standing up for myself.”
Good thing she always kept her phone recording during meetings otherwise she’d have no proof of what really went down.
“You’re fired!”
Jasper was livid.
The executives were already breathing down his neck, and now he was taking all the heat. Velocity Magazine had finally been gaining some serious momentum, but this PR disaster could tank everything they’d worked for.
Chloe kept her voice level. “My resignation letter’s on my desk with my badge.”
Before Jasper could say another word, Chloe hung up and blocked his number.
She wasn’t about to be anyone’s fall guy. No matter how long she’d been at the magazine, she was done with them constantly letting Jane steal credit for her work.
If she had to leave, whatever-plenty of other opportunities out there.

After deciding to quit Velocity, she’d already fired off her resume to several TV stations and media companies.
Chloe closed her laptop. Her phone kept buzzing with calls from Julian and James, but she declined every single one.
After about thirty minutes, an unknown number popped up.
Chloe hesitated before picking up. A cheerful woman’s voice came through.
“Hello, is this Ms. Shaw?”
“Yeah, speaking. Who’s this?”
“I’m calling from Harmony Media Group. We got your resume today and would like to schedule an interview. When works for you?”
Chloe was caught off guard.
Harmony Media was this hot new media company that had been crushing it lately. With traditional TV dying and everyone. moving to streaming and digital, Harmony was riding that wave hard. She’d thrown her resume at them on a whim, not really expecting anything.
“Tomorrow afternoon’s good for me.”

After hanging up, Chloe grabbed a shower, ordered takeout, and started prepping for the interview.
Meanwhile, the Crawford house was a complete shitshow.
Jane was curled up on the couch sobbing while Tina rubbed her back. “James, is Chloe still ignoring your calls?”
James looked pissed. “Yep.”
He really didn’t want to get dragged into whatever drama was happening between Jane and Chloe. Chloe seemed tight with the Price family, and he couldn’t afford to make enemies there. But this time, she’d really crossed a line. Jane was getting roasted online, and the Crawford name was getting dragged through the
dirt.
“We should never have brought her back. She should’ve stayed put. Look what she’s done to poor Jane.”
Tina was so focused on comforting Jane that she’d completely forgotten Chloe was her actual daughter.
Jane felt a little better hearing the support.
Julian’s eyes went cold as he stared at Jane. “Why’d you steal credit for Chloe’s work?” When he couldn’t reach Chloe, he’d called Jasper directly. Jasper swore Jane told him it came from Julian himself.

Since Velocity had Summers Group money behind it, the staff would obviously follow Julian’s orders.
Except he’d never given any such order.
Jane’s heart hammered as she scrambled for an explanation.
But Tina jumped in to defend her. “Julian, what the hell? Are you seriously grilling Jane right now? Have you forgotten everything she’s sacrificed for you? Five years together, five years married, but because of your family’s mess, she can’t even use your last name! And now you’re giving her grief over Chloe?”
Jane felt even more victimized hearing this. Fresh tears spilled down her cheeks.
“Mom, please… It’s my fault. I was struggling at work and wanted to prove myself fast, so I told Jasper those things. Julian, if you want to be mad at me, fine. I know I’m not as talented as Chloe.”
Jane’s confession hit Julian right in the guilt.
“I wasn’t trying to attack you. Forget it-I’ll deal with this mess.”
“So you’re not mad anymore?”
Jane looked at him with those wounded puppy eyes. Jalian felt5

his anger dissolve. She’d stuck with him for five years, through all the long-distance bullshit. She was his actual wife, even if she couldn’t tell anyone.
“I’m not mad. I feel like shit for putting you through this.”
Jane’s tears turned into a smile.
The next morning, Chloe saw Velocity Magazine’s statement online.
Jasper had been fired.
The statement claimed that pressuring Chloe to give Jane credit was entirely Jasper’s rogue decision. Completely clearing Jane of any responsibility.
Reading this, Chloe snorted. Julian, you’re so pathetically in love with Jane.

That afternoon, Chloe threw on a crisp white blouse and black pencil skirt and headed to Harmony Media Group.
Standing outside the glass tower, Chloe craned her neck up. The company had earned its reputation as a total game-changer-in just three years, they’d become a major player.
She walked into the sleek lobby where a handful of other people were clustered near reception, all obviously there for intervipsys5
