Then again, she couldn’t deny it felt pretty damn good.

Chloe smiled at Ethan and went back to trying on wedding dresses.

After Jane left the boutique, she sat in her car and finally let herself explode. She slammed her hands on the steering wheel, fury burning in her chest.

Why did Ethan always look at her like she was dirt under his

shoe?

The Crawford family had never offended Apex Group!

Suddenly, Chloe’s face flashed through her mind. Could Ethan be going after her because of Chloe?

The thought appeared briefly before Jane shook her head.

Ethan was too smart to get involved with a married woman.

Still stinging from the humiliation, Jane called Julian and asked him to take her to dinner.

Jane perked up. Once she became Mrs. Summers, no one would dare question her status in the Crawford family.

To thank Ethan for his help today, Chloe offered to buy him dinner. Ethan agreed.

He left his assistant behind and drove himself.

Chloe pulled up directions on her phone to a restaurant she’d

been to before.

“This place has amazing food. Everything’s locally sourced and really fresh. Healthy too-it’ll be good for you.”

She wasn’t sure what Ethan liked, but since he had health issues, good quality food couldn’t hurt.

A hostess led Chloe and Ethan to their table. Just as they were about to sit down, someone called out, “Chloe?”

Chloe’s shoulders tensed. She slowly turned around and saw Julian at the entrance with his parents, and Jane.

Seeing her with Ethan, Julian’s eyes went wide.

Jane looked like she’d seen a ghost.

Michael, however, bounced back quickly and broke into a huge smile. “Mr. Price! What a coincidence. Michael, Summers Group.”

He walked over with his hand extended.

Ethan glanced at Michael’s eager expression and didn’t move to shake his hand.

Julian, Jane, and Lauren were all staring, clearly confused.

Ethan and Chloe didn’t exactly seem like they’d be having cozy dinners together.

Plus, they’d all noticed Ethan walking slightly behind Chloe earlier, almost like he was… looking out for her.

Within seconds, Chloe had her story ready. Years of reporting had taught her to think on her feet.

She smiled casually. “I have been talking about a potential interview with Mr. Price today. Since it was dinner time, I figured I’d buy him a meal.”

Jane immediately pounced. “I saw Mr. Price at the bridal shop this afternoon. When did you set up this interview? How come I

didn’t hear about it?”

Lauren looked suspicious too,

Chloe shrugged. “His people called me last night to discuss it. Julian was right there-ask him. Or ask Mr. Price.”

Ask Ethan directly?

The guy’s presence alone was intimidating as hell.

Julian remembered Chloe had gotten a call last night, and his face relaxed. “Since we’re all here, Mr. Price, why don’t you join

us?”

It was just being polite.

To everyone’s surprise, Ethan nodded slightly. “Sure.”

Chloe widened her eyes. Are we seriously going to sit through dinner with Julian and his circus?

Michael lit up. “Fantastic! Could we get a bigger table?”

They followed the hostess to a private dining room. Michael grabbed a menu and held it out toward Ethan. “Mr. Price, everything here is incredible, Chloe and Julian used to come here all the time. You’re definitely in for a treat.”

“You order. I’m not particular.”

Ethan ignored the menu and picked up his water glass instead.

Michael wasn’t giving up and handed the menu to Chloe. “Chloe, why don’t you order for Mr. Price? Just get whatever you think is good.”

Julian.

Order whatever I think is good? He’s just assuming I’m tight with Ethan and wants to use me to kiss ass.

It was all pretty sickening, but watching Jane squirm across the table? That made it bearable. Chloe smiled sweetly, took the menu, and ordered several dishes.

The food came out quickly, but the vibe was beyond weird. Other than Michael occasionally trying to make small talk with Ethan, barely anyone said a word.

Jane pushed food around her plate without really eating.
