Lina brought Cara along to visit the Jinn family on New Year's Day.
It seemed that Lina had saved Shayne's life once and Old Master Jinn was obviously more than happy and generous enough to welcome Shayne's savior.
It was Lina who brought Shayne to the hospital back then. Old Master Jinn had promised to repay her kindness anytime she was to call in her favor with him in the future. He made her that promise while Shayne was still lying in the surgery room.
Moreover, he was even willing to go as far as fulfilling any wish Lina wanted in order to repay her kindness.
Lina's purpose for showing up then was to finally cash in her favor.
"How are you doing recently, Old Master Jinn?"
Charles was leaning back against his chair while holding onto his walking stick as he gently raised his head and said, "I'm alright."
Charles raised his hand and gestured at Lina as he said, "Have some tea, Madam Jacob. This tea happens to be brewed with premium tea leaves and tastes amazing."
An extremely huge smile remained on Lina’s face as she picked up the intricately-made porcelain cup, took a sip, and pretentiously said, "This tea is amazing, it truly is great."
Charles could tell that Lina had something to speak to him about, so he said, "Madam Jacob, is there anything I can do for you since you’ve decided to visit me on New Year's day? Don't worry, feel free to speak your mind."
Lina cautiously hinted, "Well, my daughter Cara will be turning seventeen soon and is not young anymore. I was thinking… Shouldn't she be married into a decent family?"
Lina was unsure if Old Master Jinn would be willing to accept being a part of their Jacob family. Although Old Master Jinn had promised to fulfill any wishes she wanted, he still was quite reluctant to accept Cara getting married into such a wealthy and powerful family like the Jinn family.
Old Master Jinn said, "It's too early to be thinking about marriage when she's only seventeen and besides, she hasn't reached the legal marriage age yet."
Lina dared not to disagree with him as she said, "Yes, yes indeed. But as her mother, I just wanted to get things done as soon as possible for her. I'm not trying to rush her into a marriage, I'm just trying to get the engagement done first and have both our children cultivate and grow their relationship with each other beforehand. It doesn't matter if they get married later anyway."
"So what you're saying is that you're trying to get her engaged into a good family first?"
"Yes, that's exactly what I mean," Lina replied as she cautiously read Old Master Jinn's expressions.
Old Master Jinn said, "I have a friend and his grandson's age is pretty close to your daughter's age. I can arrange for a meeting with them later. It doesn't have to be for marriage purposes. She can always have a new friend but really, it boils down to if they actually like each other or not. We as adults shouldn't really intervene with their relationships and affairs too much."
Lina bit her lips and spoke in a hesitant tone, "Old Master Jinn, the truth is that my daughter already has feelings for someone and I'm here today to ask for your honest opinion."
"Oh? Who might that person be? Do I know them?"
Lina decided to come clean as she said, "The truth is, my daughter actually likes Shayne and has for a while now. My daughter has admired him for quite some time already and I…"
Charles frowned and bluntly replied in a polite manner, "But Shayne is a lot older than your daughter and besides, I understand my grandson's personality the best. He's unreliable and too playful for his age. I'm worried that she might end up getting hurt if she dates him."
Lina frantically said, "The age gap isn't a problem and besides, Shayne is only twenty-six years old and he's only about nine years older than Cara. Older men tend to know how to love someone better. Moreover, it's normal for men his age to be playful. If men Cara's age are all indescribably playful, then wouldn't Shayne be as well? I'm not here to rush her into a marriage, I just wanted them to try things out. So, what do you say, Old Master Jinn?"
Charles was not against it since it was not a marriage proposal. "I don't see any harm in just letting them try things out."
Lina was relieved to hear that Charles was not against it. It seemed there was hope for Cara to get married into the Jinn family.
"I'm glad you're not against it, Old Master Charles. I was actually worried you might actually look down on a minor family like ours."
Charles waved his hands around as he said, "I don't really care about a person's compatibility as long as their family background is alright. Besides, women are simple people to understand and all that matters is if the youngsters get along with each other. It's entirely up to them, in all honesty."
"Yes, you're absolutely right."
…
Shayne was shooting darts downstairs.
Two of the three darts he shot hit the bullseye while the third one missed the center by a little. However, he still scored nine points.
Despite that, it seemed Shayne was not serious when he played. He was just casually throwing darts around.
Cara seemed to be completely glued to Shayne's body and did not even look away once.
"Wow, Shayne, you're really good at throwing darts. Can you teach me?"
Shayne took a glance at her and felt mischievous as he raised his chin and said, "Grab me an apple."
Cara obediently went ahead to grab an apple. She had even intentionally picked a pretty-looking red one since she thought that Shayne wanted to eat it.
