The day Yanny left happened to be on the eighth day of the new year.
All industries had resumed normal operations and Shayne had originally planned to take a month off from work since it was rare for Yanny to be on break in North City. He had even planned out the full vacation schedule and itinerary for their vacation.
However, who knew that not only did Yanny would be leaving North City but she would be leaving the entire country for two long years.
The plane tickets Shayne bought for their vacation were never given to her.
He was initially planning to take Yanny on a self-guided tour in Tibet.
Shayne left the mansion early in the morning on the eighth day of the new year.
Since Yanny's flight was at noon, she was in no hurry at all.
However, it seemed that Yanny did not even have time to make Shayne breakfast before he headed to his office that morning.
Shayne seemed to be avoiding her like the plague on the eighth day of the new year.
Jake was the one who sent her to the airport for her 3:00 p.m. flight that day.
While they were on their way to the airport, Yanny finally could not hold herself back from asking, "Does… Shayne really doesn't have anything to say to me?"
Jake let out an awkward cough before instinctively taking a couple of glances at Yanny through the rear view mirror. He seemed reluctant to speak his mind as he spoke in a hesitant tone, "He does, yeah, he actually does."
Yanny's eyes glimmered as she asked, "What is it then?"
"Miss Joy, President Jinn wanted me to tell you that since your life is destined to not be a smooth ride then he won't be wishing you a smooth success and the only thing he wishes is for you to have a safe flight."
Jake could not help but let out a series of coughs after saying that.
He thought to himself, 'President Jinn is truly a crude man for leaving behind such crude parting words while at the same time making it sound so artistic as well.'
Yanny remained silent for a brief moment while a disappointed glint flashed across her eyes but she refused to give up as she asked, "Is that it? Is there nothing else?"
"... No, nothing else."
That greeting sounded as cold as what a regular friend would say to each other.
Jake could not bear to see her like this, so he cleared his throat, let out an awkward laugh to ease the tension before comforting her, "President Jinn is busier today. Well, originally, he had me cancel his meetings at noon and he said he wanted to send you off but a business negotiation came about and required his presence. It's a huge deal and he absolutely has to be there, so… so…"
'What nonsense.'
Jake was scolding himself for uttering such nonsense.
He had intentionally asked Shayne if he wanted to spare some time to send Yanny off but Shayne simply replied with a neutral and emotionless look, "No."
'Oh, that's right, he even said why he should be sending off a woman that wanted to leave him.'
Could he have said those things to Yanny anyway? Absolutely not.
Yanny knew that Jake was only telling her a white lie as she said, "Based on Shayne's personality, if he really wants to send me off, not even the collapsing sky can stop him from doing so."
Jake was speechless as he awkwardly rubbed his nose.
After dropping Yanny off at the airport, Jake handed Yanny's ticket to her as he said, "This is as far as I will send you off. Safe travels, Miss Joy."
Yanny nodded her head and cracked a smile at him before saying, "Thank you."
Jake called out to her again before Yanny could turn around and head into her gate.
"Miss Joy!" Jake strode over to her and said, "The truth is, I can actually understand why President Jinn didn't want to send you off. Perhaps, he didn't want to personally send you away from his side. The truth is, he actually planned half a month off before the New Year break just to have a vacation with you in Tibet but who knew that you'd end up going to America."
Yanny raised her brows a little and asked, "Tibet? But he never told me about it."
"It's not surprising at all for President Jinn to not tell you at all based on his personality. Miss Joy, the truth is, in all the years that I've stayed by President Jinn's side, you are the first woman he has actual feelings for. Don't judge him because he seems like a flawed man but in all honesty, he's only just a little playful. He is willing to publicly announce his relationship and not to mention… willing to wait for you for so many years. If you were any other women out there, do you think they'll be able to waste four years of President Jinn's time? It would be a complete uncertainty if they would even be able to maintain their relationship for a full year. However, I truly didn't expect that you'd be willing to let go of everything after how well President Jinn treats you, Miss Yanny."
It seemed that even Jake could not stand to watch Shayne being treated so unfairly.
Yanny cracked a calm smile and did not say much. All she did was gently remind him, "Assistant Jake, please take care of Shayne in my absence."
"I will."
Yanny did not have anything else to say as she turned around, picked up her bag and walked toward her boarding gate.
She would return to this patch of land again someday and she would prove to everyone with time and her abilities that her departure then was done in hopes of a much better reunion.
There was nothing to feel bad or regret about.
Jake refused to give up as he yelled at Yanny's back, "Are you really not afraid of someone else snatching President Jinn away, Miss Joy?"
This sounded like a threat to make her stay.
All Yanny did was lower her head and smile before raising her hand and waving at Jake who was behind her without turning to look back once.
She would return and everything would go according to plan.
