Yanny went back to the Blue Water Residential Area feeling terribly exhausted. She leaned behind the door and could not keep herself calm for a long time.
Peacefully spending time with him?
She could not do it.
With Shayne, it was either love or hate. Being emotionless was the one thing she could not do.
It was warm inside the house, but Yanny felt as though the blood in her limbs was frozen.
Heather had already gone to bed.
Hajar was playing with legos while he waited for Yanny to come home.
Hajar approached Yanny. When he saw Yanny’s reddened eyes, he was surprised. He hesitantly asked out of concern, “Aunt Yanny, what happened to you?”
Yanny sniffled, then forced out a smile. “It’s nothing. It’s quite late now. You should go to bed.”
Hajar obediently agreed and returned to his own room.
He then looked out of the window. Below the residences, there was a dark figure of a tall man standing downstairs. He stood there on the pebble-paved path with his head lowered. That man would occasionally look upstairs, walk around, and even kick the pebbles around occasionally.
He appeared bored and disappointed.
Hajar saw that man before, back in Popular Bookmall.
Although his understanding of Chinese was still limited and he could not fully understand the conversation between Yanny and that man, he could feel that there was conflict between them from Aunt Yanny’s tone.
Downstairs, Shayne alternated between standing, squatting, and sometimes pulling the grass on the lawn.
The temperature of a springtime night was still very low.
Shayne shoved both his hands in his pockets, then raised his well-proportioned legs to kick the pebbles on the ground out of boredom.
He was acting just like an obstinate teenager.
Even if he knew she would not come for him, he would still wait. That was his stubbornness.
Blue Water Residential Area was a high-class residence. Therefore, the building management and the security team were very responsible.
Whenever they saw a stranger in the area, it was their routine to question said stranger.
Shayne was a stranger to the security guard, causing him to shout in his direction, “Hey! What are you doing, hanging around there suspiciously? What are you doing standing here at such a late hour? Are you up to something?”
Shayne’s expression turned gloomy but remained calm. He even replied, “I’m waiting for my wife.”
Hearing that, the security guard gave him a sympathetic look and said, “Your wife is quite a ruthless person. How could she bear to chase a handsome man like you out in the middle of the night to suffer in the cold.”
Shayne did not know what to feel about it and replied, “She can’t be blamed. It’s my fault.”
He seemed to be saying that to the guard, but also saying that to himself.
“It’s fine if you admit your mistakes and change for the better,” the security guard consoled him.
Shayne thought to himself, ‘But Yanny would never forgive me anymore.’
At that moment, him standing there might even be a burden for her.
Shayne suddenly started walking toward the car. He quickly said, “Sorry.”
The edge of his eyes were vaguely tearing up. He was both determined and spiritually broken.
The guard was stunned. By the time he recovered, Shayne had already got into the car and drove away.
That night, Shayne drove his car to the outskirts of town at a high speed, not caring for his life.
He smoked enough to cause the floor to be littered with cigarette butts. There were times where he would cough dryly from the discomfort he felt in his chest.
However, he was not ill nor injured.
In the end, he would always be indebted to Yanny.
