The rain stopped for a while.
The signal tower on the mountain was finally connected once more.
Yanny’s phone had coverage again. There were many missed calls from Shayne.
Shayne would not have called her so many times without reason. Yanny returned the call but no one picked up.
Doo. Doo. Doo.
The sound of the unanswered phone call made Yanny a little worried as if it were signs of something bad happening.
Yanny could not get through to Shayne. She hesitated for a while before calling Henry.
Henry picked up the phone. He said relieved and grateful, “Madam, you’re fine! That’s great! Master Shayne has gone to Fairy Creek Village to look for you! Have you met up with him?”
Yanny was stunned. “What did you say? Shayne has gone to Fairy Creek?”
“Yes, once he saw the news, he was afraid that something had happened to you in Fairy Creek so he immediately rushed there. Madam, have you not seen Master Shayne yet?”
Yanny shook her head. “No. I called him but no one is picking up.”
Henry sensed that something bad was up. “Damn, did something bad happen to Master Shayne in Fairy Creek?”
Yanny slapped her forehead. She calmly instructed, “I’m at Mount Lily’s Farmhouse Manor. I think the cable car should be out of service now. I don’t think I can go down the mountain to look for Shayne. Henry, contact the local rescue team personnel immediately to look for Shayne in Fairy Creek. They must find him. Contact me once there’s news.”
“Ok. Madam, stay safe yourself. I’ll contact them immediately.”
After hanging up, Yanny glanced out the window at the first break of heavy rain. It was dark and there was no moon.
The mountain was full of foggy wetness and the biting cold after the rain.
Yanny clutched her phone in her hand and stood by the window in a daze, waiting for Henry’s news.
Peter slept for a while, then he realized that Yanny was not asleep yet. “How are you more of a night owl than me? F*ck, it’s almost two. Are you going to bed?”
Yanny bit her lip then said decisively, “You should sleep first. I’m going down the mountain. I’ll come to pick you up once I’m done.”
Peter grabbed his messy hair and looked at Yanny in disbelief. “Are you mental? Going downhill now? The rain just stopped and the cable car is still out of service, yet you want to go down? Are you seeking death?”
Before Peter could finish his sentence, Yanny had already quickly headed out of the room. She closed the door shut behind her.
“F*ck me. This woman does not want to live anymore!”
Peter was still in his pajamas. He quickly changed his clothes, put on his shoes, and chased after her.
Yanny’s footsteps were quick. She gasped for air, running all the way to the cable car’s control room.
The control room was made of glass. A chain was cuffed around the doors.
Yanny ran and knocked on the doors a few times. The glass door only moved a little but did not open.
Yanny lowered her head and found a heavy piece of rock by her feet. She hugged the rock and violently threw it against the chains.
The lock on the chains would not budge.
She hit it a couple more times before finally breaking it. Both her hands were red.
However, she did not have the time to bother about her hands. Once she broke into the control room, she studied the switches on the control room from a borrowed light.
This sort of old cable car had simple controls. There were only two switches. Yanny did not give it any thought and activated the cable car.
The cable car slid over slowly on a metal cable. Yanny quickly stepped into the cable car and closed the door shut.
Peter, who had chased after her from Farmhouse Manor, noticed that Yanny was already in the cable car. He panted and yelled, “Hey! Come back! You really are seeking death! It’s dangerous! F*ck! My God!”
...
Amid the muddy darkness, a light beam like the break of dawn appeared.
“There’s someone here!”
Many messy footsteps approached the darkness.
Shayne avoided the rolling boulder but had also rolled down the slope. There were bruises and injuries all over him. His phone fell into a bush not far from him.
He laid on the floor and stretched his long, slender hands out, fishing his constantly ringing phone from the bush.
It was from Henry.
Shayne took some effort to answer the phone. When he picked the phone up, he was leaning against a huge tree and gasping for air.
On the phone was Henry’s relieved and elated voice, “Master Shayne! You finally picked the phone up! Madam is fine! She’s not in Fairy Creek. Where are you? Are you fine?”
Shayne’s dark eyes brightened. He let out a sigh of relief. Thank goodness she was not in Fairy Creek.
“Where is she?” Shayne’s voice was extremely hoarse. He lost his voice by yelling out for Yanny. At that moment, even talking softly was excruciatingly painful, as if he was swallowing shards of glass.
“Madam is in Mount Lily, Farmhouse Manor. She said that there were no mudslides at Mount Lily. She is currently very safe. Master Shayne, how are you?”
Shayne used his weak and sore arm to push himself against the muddy ground and supported his tall figure up. He slowly got up from the ground in a hunched position.
