Mount Lily’s cable car resumed its usual operations.
Peter Brook was a proud client. Yanny called him to come down Mount Lily but he refused. He made Yanny personally pick him up and bring him down.
On the phone, he also arrogantly said that he would sell the movie rights to the Yellow River series to her if she came back up to Mount Lily to pick him up herself rather than call the guys to do it for her.
Yanny teased him on the phone, “How could I pass for such a good deal? I dare you to wait for me there.”
“A man will always keep his promises.”
Yanny took the cable car up Mount Lily to the Farmhouse Manor to pick Peter up.
When they checked out, Peter walked together with Yanny toward the cable car station.
On the way, Peter asked curiously, “Hey, I’m curious. What happened yesterday? What made you risk your life to take the cable car downhill?”
Yanny’s eyes sparkled a little as she said, “Although you’re my most important client right now, I still have the right to my own privacy, right?”
“Fine, fine. I can’t be bothered with other people’s affairs anyway.”
Yanny walked in front while Peter lazily followed behind. They walked to the cable car platform.
On the platform, a tall and handsome young man stood there.
His handsome face was pale and haggard. There were bandages on his head too. Both his eyes were bloodshot, looking exhausted and worn out.
Yanny suddenly stopped in her tracks. She gazed at him quietly from a distance.
Peter naturally noticed him as well. He walked forward and bumped into Yanny’s shoulder with his own and asked, “Do you know him?”
Yanny did not expect that Shayne would come up here.
The air in the mountain is cold; with every exhale, a white mist would form. She noticed that Shayne was wearing too little. He only had on a thin, white shirt beneath his black coat.
He seemed to be emaciated recently.
Yanny took a deep breath. She did not pretend to not see him. She only walked calmly toward the cable car platform and said, “Patients should not run around. Do the hospitals not care about you?”
Shayne furrowed his brows. “They can’t do anything about me. I snuck out.”
“What can I do for you?”
Shayne looked at her deeply and said, “Samuel said some stuff to me that I never knew about.”
Samuel betrayed her. In the end, he still could not help but tell those things to Shayne.
“There’s nothing to talk about, it’s all in the past.”
“Let’s have a chat.” Even if it was about the divorce, it was much better than her not talking to him.
When Yanny got into the cable car, Peter was naturally about to get into the same one. He did not expect that Shayne would block him, not letting him enter. Shayne leaped into the cable car and closed the door.
Standing outside of the cable car, Peter yelled, “Hey! You gangster! Who the hell are you?”
Yanny and Shayne were in the same cable car. Soon, the cable car was on its tracks, slowly sliding down.
Peter could only admit defeat and sat in the next one.
…
In the cable car, the space was cramped.
Yanny could not remember when was the last time that she had been in such an enclosed space alone together with Shayne.
The scenery outside the cable car was stunning. In the mountains and rivers, it was green everywhere. It all looked amazing.
Yanny looked at the scenery outside with unfocused eyes. It was silent in the car.
Shayne was silent for a long time. Seeing that they were a third into the journey, he finally broke the silence, “Why did you not tell me that you couldn’t get pregnant?”
Yanny pursed her lips. She smiled slightly and said without any emotions, “It’s nothing. After all, I don’t plan to have kids in this lifetime. Other than my weakened physical condition, I have to be careful to not get injured. Therefore, not having kids won’t be such a huge impact on my life.”
Shayne’s eyes landed on her bandaged finger. His eyes turned sharp as he asked, “What happened to your hand?”
“I accidentally…”
Before Yanny could finish her sentence, Shayne interrupted her, “Was it when you took the cable car down to look for me? Your blood’s ability to coagulate is not good so such a thing is dangerous. The local hospitals here in such a rural area would not have your RH negative blood type. Do you know how dangerous it would be if you couldn’t stop yourself from bleeding?”
Yanny lowered her head slightly and said gently, “What’s the use of saying all these things now?”
She had no feelings left toward him anymore. Including hatred. She could not even hate him anymore.
Shayne swallowed hard and asked, “If Samuel did not tell me those things, were you planning to keep them from me for the rest of your life?”
Yanny lifted her head, looked at him, and said, “Shayne, since we’re already strangers, then let’s just stick to being strangers. There are things you do not need to know because knowing those things will not change the past. As for us, let’s just stop here.”
There was not a trace of feelings left in her clear eyes. Even the loathing was gone.
Squeak!
An ear-splitting sound of cable car wheels rubbing against steel lines came through.
The cable car suddenly broke down and emergency braked in mid-air.
