After breakfast, Shayne took Yanny to the Department of Civil Affairs to collect their wedding certificate.
Coincidentally, it was the same staff who processed their divorce one year ago. The registry staff recognized them right away because of Shayne and Yanny’s exceptional looks.
The staff was a middle-aged woman, she frowned while studying both Shayne and Yanny. “If I recall, you requested a divorce the last time. It’s only been a year now, so are you sure you want to remarry?”
Yanny felt embarrassed.
Shayne felt slightly frustrated. “Is there a rule stating that divorced couples are not allowed to remarry?”
Shayne came off rather aggressive, causing the staff to flinch. Though she murmured, “ I am simply worried that you’ll ask for another divorce a year later. These days, youngsters like you tend not to take marriages seriously. It is as if marriages are just a play that you get to decide when to marry and when to get a divorce.”
Shayne did not get mad this time. Instead, he told the staff solemnly and seriously, “It was because of a misunderstanding that led to the divorce back then, but once we remarry now, we will not divorce until death does us apart. You can proceed with the request and you will not see us again.”
“...”
Rather quickly, the staff handed over their marriage certificate.
When Shayne and Yanny were about to leave, the staff followed from behind and congratulated them, “Both of you are perfect for each other, so you should keep your word, and let’s not meet again in this lifetime.”
Shayne replied, “Definitely.”
Walking out from the Department of Civil Affairs, Shayne held onto Yanny’s hands and said, “The three happiest moments in this world are dodging a bullet, regaining something that was lost, and surviving a tragedy. I have gone through all of that.”
Yanny smiled lightly. “Shayne, let's head home.”
...
Shayne had been working at home since Yanny was not feeling well. He left the unimportant work to both Henry and the higher management of his company.
The mansion was filled with the smell of herbal medicine.
Yanny had to take the medicine after every meal.
The medicine was not only bitter, but it also had an indescribable strange taste that would make one’s face twitch.
The medicine was less bitter after being infused in honey, yet there was once when Yanny cried while drinking the bitter medicine after getting remarried to Shayne.
Yanny felt pretentious for acting this way.
While comforting her, Shayne tried to convince Yanny to give up. “If we don’t want a child, it doesn’t matter if we treat this illness or not. Yanny, let’s just give up. It isn’t worth it going through all this hassle for a child.”
Yanny was once swayed by this thought as she too had wanted to give up as both of them did not like children.
Indeed, the happiness of their relationship would not be affected by the presence of having children.
However, Yanny did not wish to see Shayne being vilified by other people.
Besides, she had been drinking this medicine for quite a while now, so it would be a waste to give up now.
“I don’t want to give up halfway, because then, our previous efforts will go to waste.”
Yanny then finished the rest of the medicine in one go.
Shayne leaned down and kissed her lips, using his tongue to slip a fruit candy into her mouth.
The sweet and sour fruit candy slowly covered the bitterness of the medicine, until her mouth was only left with the refreshing taste of the candy.
With the candy in her mouth, Yanny slowly turned her gaze to Shayne’s lips. “It’s sweet, and I want more of it.”
Shayne teased, “Is the candy sweet? Or is it me that is sweet?”
“You.”
Holding the back of her head, Shayne leaned in and sealed her lips with a kiss.
He could still taste the medicine that lingered in her mouth and he frowned.
How did she manage to finish the medicine in one go?
It was not an exaggeration for one to cry upon finishing the medicine.
…
Yanny had been taking the medicine as if those were her meals for half a month now.
Luckily, she bore through it.
After half a month, she visited Ben’s clinic.
Ben took her vitals and he had Yanny get her blood tested before telling her anything.
Yet again, there was bleeding from the three main arteries.
After getting the blood test results, Ben said lightly, “There is an increase in the number of blood platelets compared to the last time. This medicine is working effectively for Mrs. Jinn. Do continue taking the medicine for roughly half a year and it will help in improving her blood clotting.”
When Shayne brought Yanny there, he expected Ben to give a number of opinions and did not expect to be sent away with just a few words.
Shayne asked coldly, “Tell me, can you treat her illness? If not, I’ll look for someone else instead.”
Otherwise, Yanny would have to keep drinking the bitter medicine even though the medicine was ineffective. She could be wasting her time going through all this trouble.
Ben had always thought that Shayne was overreacting. He smiled and explained, “Master Shayne might have a misconception about Mrs. Jinn’s sickness. Her sickness is not considered serious. Though the blood report showed that some measures fell below the normal range, it was not low enough to be diagnosed as a sickness, and it was treatable. Mrs. Jinn’s body is rather weak but it is not a big problem. However, if you are preparing for pregnancy, it is best to pay more attention. Mrs. Jinn’s sickness is not an untreatable sickness. You are just being overly anxious.”
Shayne asked, “This medicine is too bitter to continue drinking it for half a year. Is there anything less bitter?”
Ben replied weakly with hesitation, “There actually is…”
“Then, have it changed. The bitterness of the medicine could kill her before her sickness could even get treated.”
“...”
Ben thought to himself, ‘What an exaggeration.’
Seeing Ben keeping quiet, Shayne frowned and demanded impatiently, “Do you have it or not?”
