While Kush drove, he cautiously took a glance at Heaton through the rearview mirror. The man had a bitter expression and seemed to be in a dark mood.
“Boss, could there be any misunderstanding about...this incident? Miss Mont shouldn’t have done something like that…”
As he reached the end of his statement, Heaton’s gaze turned extremely cold and Kush obediently clammed up.
As the black Maybach arrived at the mansion, Heaton entered and could not find Verian at the ground floor. After he strode upstairs with his long slender legs, he noticed Verian was laying on the huge bed, her tiny face stained with tears as she slept.
She had been crying?
Heaton frowned slightly as he softened his footsteps while approaching her. He sat next to her and was just about to reach out and wipe the tear stains off her tender and tiny white face when he could hear her mumble something from her pink moist lips.
Her voice was extremely soft and Heaton could not clearly hear what she had spoken. When he lowered his head and leaned in closer, he could hear her sleep talk while sobbing, “Daddy… I’m sorry… daddy… sorry…”
Heaton’s dark eyes trembled…
Sorry? So she felt that by being with him, she was wronging her father?
Heaton had made Kush investigate the Mont Enterprise’s case. Back then, it was the rise of the real estate market. As a developer, the Fudd Group had built a huge number of housing projects in North City and due to the exceedingly high demand, they had outsourced some projects to external construction companies. Back then, one of the construction companies for one of the projects happened to be Mont Enterprise. Heaton’s staff were discussing the terms of the agreement for their collaboration and had requested that Mont Enterprise complete the construction in two months. Such a request was actually not too unreasonable since if everything went by smoothly, they would have leftover time in the two month period.
Besides, for a man like Heaton, who was known for his ruthless measures, to allow two months for a building’s construction was extremely merciful.
Mont Enterprise was in a pretty rough shape then. It seemed that Grayson Mont was only accepting this project as a desperate means to keep his company alive. However, due to a continuous snowstorm, they were unable to work according to their schedule. Grayson’s staff were also corrupted and escaped with some funds. To make matters worse for Mont Enterprise, due to the continuous setbacks, Fudd Group’s legal team were suing Mont Enterprise for losses due to the schedule delays and the amount was no small fee.
Since Heaton was in a high position of power, he cared very little for such a minor construction company. He too, cared very little when Mont Enterprise went bankrupt that same year.
Besides, Mont Enterprise was nothing but a tiny ant in comparison to the Fudd Group. Why would Heaton investigate or care about a tiny construction company when he was always busy with work anyway, right?
The only thing was when Heaton had Kush investigate previously, he came to realize that Grayson actually came looking for him all those years ago. However, he refused to even meet him. Not long after Mont Enterprise went bankrupt, Grayson committed suicide by jumping out of a building. From what Kush mentioned, it was due to the overwhelming number of debtors and the astronomical amount of debts he had collected to have every single bank in North City be unwilling to grant him a loan. Grayson felt that he had no options left, hence, he had chosen a path of no return.
In Heaton’s perspective however, this was all between businesses and not to mention, he did not even know Verian then.
However, Grayson’s death was tied to the Fudd Group but not to him.
Heaton would never allow Verian to refuse to be with him or even leave him due to that incident.
Heaton focused his gaze intently at the tiny lady who was sound asleep on the bed. He raised his hand and brushed it along the long, messy hair on the pillow. The lady seemed to be sleeping poorly as that single touch alone was enough to wake her.
“Awake?”
When Verian opened her eyes, she noticed Heaton who was sitting beside her. Her slender body recoiled backward in response and it seemed she was on her guard.
Heaton’s hand stiffened slightly, suspended in mid-air. Heaton, who was prideful and unreasonable, could not allow her to reject him so he immediately scooped her body with his huge hands and placed her by the bedframe before kissing her heavily.
“What are you shying away for, hmm?”
Verian’s tiny face was heavily blushing from the kiss as she found it hard to even breathe.
“Heaton…”
It was only after hearing her calling out to him in a soft tone while placing her arms on his shoulders did Heaton release her. His thin lips were pressed on hers as he asked in a soft tone, “Why did you cry?”
Did she not sleep talk earlier and cause Heaton to be suspicious of her?
“Nothing. It was all because of my stomach, it feels slightly awful.”
